(CLO) Mr. Prabowo Subianto officially became the eighth President of Indonesia on Sunday (October 20), after winning the election in February this year.
Subianto won nearly 60% of the vote in the February 14 election. The 73-year-old Indonesian president, who was defense minister before taking office, was sworn in at the Indonesian parliament to officially succeed Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.

Indonesia's new president, who has failed in two previous elections, told lawmakers after being sworn in that he would be president for all Indonesians, even those who did not vote for him.
But he said the country still had many internal problems to address. "Do we realize that our people and our children are malnourished? Many of our people do not have good jobs. Many of our schools are neglected," Prabowo said. "Ladies and gentlemen, we must have the courage to look at all these things and we must have the courage to address all these problems."
Mr Prabowo is expected to meet foreign leaders, including about 20 heads of state, at the Presidential Palace on Sunday afternoon. Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield will lead the Chinese and US delegations to the inauguration.
During his election campaign, Mr Prabowo pledged to continue economic development and take Indonesia into a more active role on the international stage. He set an economic growth target of 8% (currently 5%), promised self-sufficiency in food production and a more important role in the world.
