OpenAI is about to enter the browser market with an AI-integrated 'rookie'?
According to The Information , OpenAI has been in secret discussions with major app and website developers such as Conde Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite, and Priceline about this web browser project. OpenAI's goal is to create a revolutionary browser that leverages the power of AI to deliver a superior web browsing experience.
The browser, codenamed NLWeb (Natural Language Web), will allow users to interact using natural language, the source said. NLWeb will be deeply integrated with OpenAI's AI tools, including ChatGPT, to help users find information, answer questions, and complete tasks quickly and efficiently.
The move shows OpenAI's big ambitions to challenge Google's dominance in the web browser space. Chrome currently holds an overwhelming market share of 66%, far ahead of Safari in second place.
OpenAI’s move into the browser market also comes as Google faces legal pressure from the US Department of Justice , which is demanding that Google sell Chrome to prevent a monopoly in the online search industry.
Although there is no official information about the launch date, OpenAI is said to have 'recruited' many Google Chrome engineers, including Ben Goodger - one of the founding members of the Chrome project.
With the combination of advanced AI technology and talented staff, OpenAI's web browser is expected to create a big push in the market, making Google wary.
