A few days before joining Man City FC in the US to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, Coach Pep Guardiola attended a special ceremony at the University of Manchester on the afternoon of June 9. Principal Nazir Afzal presented Pep with an honorary doctorate, the University of Manchester's highest award for individuals who have made a great impact, contributing to improving community life and promoting social values through their work.

Speaking at the ceremony, Guardiola shared: "Manchester means a lot to me. Nine years living and working here has made Manchester my second home. The affection from the people, the local culture, Manchester City Club and my colleagues make everything special for me and my family."
He also highlighted the role of the University of Manchester in the development of the city and felt honoured to receive an honorary doctorate from such a prestigious university. Guardiola also thanked the university and Manchester City for their support.

Professor Duncan Ivison, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, praised Guardiola as not only a talented coach but also a great inspiration. "Pep was not born in Manchester but he has become an indispensable part of the city. His presence has contributed to Manchester's international stature," said Mr Ivison.
In addition to his achievements on the field, the university also recognizes Guardiola's social contributions through his family's charitable foundation - the Guardiola Sala Foundation, with many activities aimed at justice and social responsibility in the local area.

Before coming to Manchester, Guardiola had a hugely successful coaching career at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. In La Liga, he won three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues in four seasons at Barcelona. Moving to Bayern, he continued to dominate the Bundesliga with three consecutive titles and regularly reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
