Pep Guardiola liquidates Man City players that no one expected

Once a mainstay in Man City's defense, Manuel Akanji is now at risk of leaving Etihad to join Galatasaray.

Manchester United are currently negotiating the transfer of Akanji with Galatasaray, a sale worth £15 million.

Journalist Jack Gaughan (Sportsmail) revealed that Pep Guardiola did not keep his student, letting Akanji decide his own future.

Manuel Akanji was named on the bench for the Premier League opener against Wolves. However, he did not play a single minute.

The 30-year-old defender still has two years left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, after joining from Dortmund for a fee of £15 million in the summer of 2022.

If Man City can recover a similar amount from Glatasaray, this would be an impressive deal, because Akanji helped the club win 2 Premier League titles and the prestigious Champions League trophy.

Guardiola's move to bring Josko Gvardiol back into centre-back has increased competition in the heart of defence, making Akanji's departure this summer more likely.
