Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Desilu Leon expects his country's trade with the other 20 economies in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to exceed $80 billion this year.

This was stated by Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Desilu Leon in an interview with El Peruano newspaper ahead of the APEC Summit Week taking place from November 10-16 in Lima, Peru.
Minister Desilu Leon said that trade turnover between Peru and APEC economies in 2024 will increase by 5.89% compared to 2023, with 75.548 billion USD.
Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism highlighted the positive impact of hosting the annual APEC meetings in the country.
This year, with 240 preparatory meetings held, Peru welcomed 7,400 visitors to APEC-related meetings. The 2024 APEC host country is also expected to welcome an additional 15,000 during the upcoming Summit Week.
Regarding trade integration during the APEC Summit Week, Ms. Leon said that Peru will sign a protocol to optimize the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China and the Trade Agreement with Hong Kong (China).
According to Peruvian statistics, since 1998, trade between this South American country and APEC economies has grown at an average rate of 12% per year, and during the period 2000-2021, Peru's trade with these economies increased more than eightfold, from 8 billion USD to 67 billion USD. This is the third time Peru has hosted the APEC Summit, after 2008 and 2016.
