Petrolimex pioneers in blending and supplying B5 biodiesel fuel

Responding to the peak emulation period according to Plan No. 06-KH/DU dated April 8, 2025 of the Government Party Committee, in order to strive to successfully complete the targets of the Resolution of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2020-2025 term, towards welcoming the 5th Congress of the Party Committee of the Vietnam National Petroleum Group for the 2025-2030 term, the Group has been implementing many specific, practical and meaningful activities. In that series of activities, the program of blending and supplying B5 diesel fuel to Vietnam Railways Corporation , witnessed by the Vietnam Petroleum Association, is a concrete step, realizing Petrolimex's commitment to participate in the Action Program on green energy conversion, reducing carbon and methane emissions of the transport sector in Decision 876/QD-TTg dated July 22, 2022 of the Prime Minister. As an enterprise that owns the leading advanced fuel blending system in Vietnam, along with mastering blending technology, storage capacity, and large-scale fuel supply, Petrolimex's blended products not only quickly meet market requirements but also ensure full compliance with national regulations.

According to the National Technical Regulation on gasoline, diesel fuel and biofuel (QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN), B5 diesel fuel is a mixture of diesel fuel and original biodiesel fuel (B100), denoted as B5, with a B100 ratio of 4-5%.

According to the US Department of Energy – Alternative Fuels Data Center, B5 has been approved for use by most diesel car and truck manufacturers, without requiring any engine modifications.

B5 is considered an effective transition solution in the transition to clean energy, with outstanding advantages in engine operation and environmental protection as follows:

- According to the US Department of Energy, using B5 will reduce the main causes of air pollution in urban areas: reduce 10 - 20% of CO (Carbon Monoxide) emissions, reduce 10 - 15% of fine dust particles (PM), reduce 20% of Hydrocarbons (HC) and lower the content of sulfur oxides (SOx) in exhaust gas. Thereby, reducing the risk of environmental pollution and improving air quality.

- Optimize engine performance: B5 has a higher cetane index than mineral diesel, helping the combustion process to take place faster and more stably, thereby making it easier to start the engine, reducing engine noise and vibration. In addition, B5's superior lubricating properties help reduce friction and wear in important parts such as high-pressure pumps and fuel injectors, thereby extending engine life and reducing maintenance costs.

- Renewable and environmentally friendly: The biological ingredients in B5 are produced from vegetable oils or animal fats, which are renewable raw materials and can be produced domestically, contributing to reducing dependence on petroleum.
