Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Bach received the international award for outstanding research ISPOR 2023

At the ISPOR Europe 2023 Conference, which took place from November 12 to 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the world's largest association for health economics and effectiveness research (ISPOR) presented the 2023 Science and Leadership in Research Awards.

The ISPOR 2023 Excellence in Research Award recognizes Associate Professor Dr. Tran Xuan Bach's efforts over the past 15 years to evaluate the effectiveness and identify socio-economic and psychological-behavioral barriers to the expansion of new medical technologies, including vaccines and treatments, contributing to the control of pandemics such as HIV/AIDS and COVID-19.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Xuan Bach has also proposed theoretical models to guide the quantification of disease risks and the development of policies to improve the health system's response capacity to the COVID-19 pandemic and published a series of works in leading scientific journals of each related specialty.

According to Prof. Dr. Le Thi Huong, Director of the Institute of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Hanoi Medical University, the Institute is very pleased that the Institute's lecturers were awarded the Outstanding Research Award by the world's largest association for health economic evaluation.

"Although it is a new major compared to other fields in medicine, health economics is extremely necessary for the management of the health system, especially in the current context of Vietnam. We are also the first unit to have an international Master of Public Health program specializing in Health Economics. This award shows that our staff as well as our research and training activities in Health Economics have been recognized by the world, creating important premises to contribute to the development of high-quality health human resources, as well as contributing to the operation of the health system."

Speaking at the award ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Xuan Bach expressed his honor to receive the ISPOR Outstanding Research Award, representing scientists in low- and middle-income countries.

"In the post-COVID-19 world, where health systems are increasingly fragmented and vulnerable, I believe our mission to deliver evidence-based innovations is more important than ever. This prestigious award not only demonstrates the importance and feasibility of integrating health economics and effectiveness research into policy-making in these areas, but also inspires scientists around the world to further contribute to creating a fairer and healthier society," said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Xuan Bach.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Xuan Bach graduated with a PhD in 2011 from the University of Alberta, Canada; he then completed his postdoctoral program at Johns Hopkins University, USA and his Habilitation at Aix-Marseille University, France.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Xuan Bach is recognized by many international academic systems as a scientist in the Top 1% of the most influential scientists worldwide through Clarivate's scientific citations in 2022. Also in this year, he was awarded the Second Prize for Research on Healthy Women - Healthy Economy by the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum (APEC) and the Outstanding Scientific Star Award by the Research.com system.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Xuan Bach was the Outstanding Young Vietnamese Face of 2016 and won the Golden Globe Science and Technology Award in 2017. In 2019, he was elected as a member of the Executive Board of the Global Young Scientists Academy (GYA) under the German National Academy (Leopoldina). As a member of the Central Executive Committee of the 11th Youth Union, Vice President of the Central Youth Union of the 8th term, Associate Professor, Dr. Bach has devoted much effort to developing the Global Network of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals, connecting and promoting young Vietnamese scientists around the world to turn to the country, share knowledge, and join hands to develop many practical projects.
