Comrade Tong Quang Thin, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province, emphasized: The workshop is not only an opportunity to reflect on the life and contributions of an outstanding woman of the Dinh dynasty, but also an opportunity to revive the flow of heritage - where Cheo is not only a type of folk theater, but also the voice of the Vietnamese people through many generations.

The Art of Cheo - the breath of the Northern Delta

If Quan Ho is a passionate invitation on the riverbank, if Ca Tru is a lullaby whispering in a peaceful space, then Cheo is a smile, a rustic voice echoing from the ancient village communal house yard, a mirror reflecting the life, morality, and emotions of the Vietnamese people.

With its rustic folk quality and witty language, the art of Cheo singing has become a typical stage art form of the Northern Delta - where rice grows and where Cheo is imbued with the lifestyle and thinking of Vietnamese farmers.

And in that space, the figure of Upasika Pham Thi Tran is like a lamp illuminating the early days, the first person to "take the mat", turning folk songs into art, turning the status of women into symbols. She is not only the founder of Cheo, but also the first woman in history to be granted a mandarin title, a proud milestone for women in feudal times.

Speaking at the workshop, comrade Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, was moved to share: "Lady Pham Thi Tran was not only the founder of the national theater, but also left behind a priceless cultural heritage. The Government has decided to take her death anniversary - August 12 of the lunar calendar - as Vietnam Theater Day, to honor those who preserve national art."

The workshop was also an opportunity for delegates to look back at the lasting values she left behind: from the image of the clown in ancient Cheo, her unique creations, to the cultural roots of Ninh Binh associated with the Dinh Tien Hoang dynasty, from the role of artists in inheriting heritage to the direction of developing cultural tourism through Cheo art.

Not just art, but the soul of the nation

Cheo has long been not only a form of folk entertainment, but has become the language of the Vietnamese soul, where human morality is conveyed, where rustic laughter blends with the philosophy of life. In Cheo, there are tears for injustice, laughter for the irony of life, human love, deep love for the countryside, loyalty and filial piety are cherished.

From the old mat where Pham Thi Tran first sang, Cheo has transcended time to reach today, where artists continue to light the flame of tradition, so that the sound of Cheo drums still echoes in the communal house yard, so that traditional art does not only live in museums, but exists in the hearts of every Vietnamese person.

The workshop ended, but the values that Upasika Pham Thi Tran left behind will last forever. That is the vitality and longevity of an art form that the Vietnamese people can proudly call by its name: Cheo, the soul of the Northern Delta, the soul of the nation.
