Vietnamese bread in general is honored by the world , not fussy, but carries the culinary essence in its own way in each locality in the country. Phan Thiet bread in particular is a cuisine not to be missed, attracting many tourists.

Honored

Taste Atlas magazine (a travel and culinary guide magazine) recently published a list of the 100 most delicious dishes in the world. Of which, Vietnam has 2 dishes honored, including Vietnamese bread ranked 14th, with 4.6 stars and Vietnamese pho ranked 100th, with 4.4 stars. Along with pho, banh mi is considered one of the most famous Vietnamese dishes in the world. This is a type of sandwich influenced by the ingredients of France, China and Vietnam. Although it has the same name, Vietnamese baguette is different. Because Vietnamese bread is made from dough, adding a little rice flour to make the bread more spongy inside, but crispier than the outer crust, has a smaller size, and has filling inside. With these characteristics, diners can enjoy it more easily than long, dense bread. (reference and translation from Taste Altas source).

Vietnamese bread originated from the West, has been present in Vietnam for a long time - around the 19th century and is known by many people. In the 2000s, the word "banh mi" was listed in the Oxford dictionary. This affirms the sovereignty of Vietnamese cuisine. The dictionary defines "banh mi" as a Vietnamese style of bread, inside the bread loaf is filled with cold cuts, pate and vegetables. Moreover, Vietnamese bread is honored and promoted by many culinary experts and international media agencies. Because the bread is not fussy, it carries the culinary quintessence in its own way in each locality in the country. Traditional bread is filled with pate, cold cuts, ham, shredded pork; served with carrots, sweet and sour pickled white radish, cucumber, chili, coriander, butter or mayonnaise.

However, over time, along with the changes in culinary culture, the bread fillings inside are also quite diverse, suitable for each region and locality. For example, bread with fried eggs, roast pork, grilled meat or condensed milk bread... In Phan Thiet, the bread fillings have their own characteristics of the coastal region, which cannot be confused with other places.

Phan Thiet bread is served with steamed fish cakes, fried fish cakes, meatballs, char siu pork, boiled eggs, pork skin, banh quai vac... This filling is placed on a plate or bowl, with a dipping sauce including thick fish sauce, meatball sauce, fried onions, coriander, pickles (carrots, white radish pickled sweet and sour). All of these create a bread dish with a colorful bowl of filling, very eye-catching to diners. Depending on the choice of filling, a portion of bread costs about 15,000 - 25,000 VND. Diners can buy it at any time of the day.

Phan Thiet has many famous sidewalk sandwich shops that have been around for decades. For example, the sidewalk sandwich shop that has been around for more than 20 years, where customers have to wait in line, is called “waiting for bread”; the sandwich shop in Hung Long has been around for more than 40 years. Visitors to Phan Thiet cannot miss Phan Thiet sandwiches. Many tourist groups commented: “These are popular eateries serving both locals and tourists. Phan Thiet sandwiches are delicious, with a strong taste of the sea, and the prices are affordable for everyone.”
