Launching the Month of Action on Labor Safety and Hygiene and Workers' Month 2025

On the morning of April 22, Can Tho City People's Committee held a launching ceremony for the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health and Workers' Month 2025. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health of the city, together with leaders of the Party Building Committees of the City Party Committee; departments, businesses and a large number of union members and workers... attended the launching ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, officially launched the 2025 Occupational Safety and Health Action Month with the theme "Strengthening assessment, identifying risks and proactively implementing measures to ensure occupational safety and health at the workplace" and the 2025 Workers' Month with the theme "Vietnamese workers pioneering into a new era".

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep suggested that Party committees and authorities at all levels strengthen and improve the effectiveness of management of occupational safety and health. In implementing projects, it is necessary to focus on assessing environmental impacts, especially for investment projects in exploitation, industrial production, construction and installation, where there are heavy and toxic working conditions to proactively control dangerous factors in the workplace. In particular, pay attention to occupational safety and health issues for female workers, minor workers, people with disabilities, the elderly, etc. Implement well the policy of periodic health check-ups, assessment, rehabilitation, treatment, subsidies and other policies as prescribed for those who unfortunately suffer from work-related accidents and occupational diseases.

The Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee also requested the City Labor Federation, the City Farmers' Association, the Can Tho City Youth Union, and the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry's branch in the city to step up propaganda, dissemination, and education of occupational safety and health laws for leaders, managers, enterprises, production and business establishments, employers, and employees. The Department of Health shall guide and urge the statistics of occupational accidents at medical examination and treatment facilities and send them to the Department of Home Affairs for synthesis in accordance with regulations. The People's Committees of districts shall direct local authorities to strengthen inspection and examination of compliance with occupational safety and health regulations of enterprises in the area;...

"Enterprises need to consciously comply with the provisions of the law on occupational safety and health; proactively control and prevent occupational accidents; organize occupational safety and health training for workers; strengthen coordination activities, integrate them into the implementation of activities responding to the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health and Workers' Month in 2025 to ensure practicality and effectiveness," Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep emphasized.

Speaking in response to the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health and Workers' Month 2025, Ms. Le Thi Suong Mai, President of the Can Tho City Labor Federation, called on and requested all union members, workers and trade unions at all levels to coordinate with the government, agencies, units and enterprises to uphold the spirit of responsibility to respond most effectively on the basis of promoting the patriotic emulation movement, setting an example in labor production, work and study, contributing with the Party Committee, government and people of the city to successfully implement the development goals, building an increasingly modern and civilized city.

At the launching ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented 18 Trade Union Shelters and 200 gifts to workers in difficult circumstances.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, leaders of the Department of Home Affairs and the City Labor Federation organized a delegation to visit and give gifts to the family of Mr. Bui Van Dung, a worker who had a work accident (in Long Thanh 2 area, Trung Nhut ward, Thot Not district).

According to statistics from the Department of Home Affairs of Can Tho City, in 2024, the city had 108 work accidents, a decrease of 20 cases compared to 2023.

According to reports from enterprises, 23,745 people (in 6 groups) were trained in occupational safety and health; machinery and equipment with strict occupational safety and health requirements were inspected and registered for use according to regulations. Enterprises conducted work environment monitoring with 13,343 samples, of which 95.05% met the permitted standards. The organization of Occupational Safety and Health Month and Workers' Month in 2024 achieved high results.
