Dien Bien: Developing experiential tourism products to attract tourists

In recent years, in Dien Bien province, many good traditional cultural values ​​have been restored and developed; tourist areas, spots, and accommodation facilities have been gradually built and developed, contributing to improving people's lives.

As a border province in the Northwest region of the country, Dien Bien has abundant cultural and tourism resources when it is home to 19 ethnic groups with distinct cultural features. Taking advantage of these unique cultural features to develop experiential tourism products has been and is considered a positive factor creating attraction for tourists when coming to Dien Bien.

Coming to Dien Bien , through experiential tourism activities, visitors will be immersed in the cultural life, customs and rituals of that place, and chat and live with the local people... This is both an opportunity to introduce and promote to tourists the culture, people and landscapes of each place, and a solution to build the destination tourism brand of Dien Bien.

At Na Su community tourism village (Cha Nua commune, Nam Po district), people not only create landscapes and spaces close to nature, prepare dishes imbued with Thai ethnic identity, but also organize experiential activities such as weaving, knitting, catching stream fish... to attract and impress tourists.

According to Ms. Leng Thi Chien - a resident of Na Su village, when visitors want to experience the traditional brocade weaving, she is willing to give enthusiastic instructions so that visitors can perform the steps of the weaving process themselves. This experience has created excitement for visitors. This is also a way to promote so that visitors can understand more about the culture of the Thai people.

With its wild and attractive natural beauty, typical of a border district, Muong Nhe has great potential for tourism development because it is home to many unique cultural heritages of 10 ethnic minorities. In addition, there are traditional crafts such as the blacksmithing of the Mong people, the art of making costumes of the Ha Nhi people in the communes of Sin Thau, Leng Su Sin, Sen Thuong, Chung Chai.

Coming to the villages of the Mong, Ha Nhi, Thai ethnic groups... in Muong Nhe, visitors can also enjoy the typical cuisine of the local people. Participate in the cooking experience with pickled cabbage dishes, fish soup with sour vegetables, mixed sour dishes, drinks made from cardamom seeds, cogon grass roots and drink delicious forest tea.

By the end of the first quarter of this year, Dien Bien province welcomed nearly 430,000 visitors, reaching over 29% of the 2025 plan. Of which, international visitors reached nearly 4,000, up 21%; total revenue from tourism activities reached nearly 770 billion VND, reaching 32% of the plan. In the first quarter, Dien Bien province successfully organized major festivals such as the 2025 Ban Flower Festival and the 8th Dien Bien Province Ethnic Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival; Cherry Blossom Festival... with many unique activities that attracted a large number of tourists. Along with that, historical and cultural relics in the province are destinations that attract a large number of tourists to visit, experience and learn about history.

Investment in infrastructure development and tourism products has gradually met the needs of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and enjoy scenic spots. Many tourist works and cultural institutions have been put into use, creating important highlights for the province to organize political, economic and social events associated with tourism promotion and development activities of the province; most historical and cultural relics have been restored and embellished.

Many good traditional cultural values ​​have been restored and developed; tourist areas, spots, and accommodation facilities have been gradually built. Tourism and service activities have attracted many investment resources from economic sectors, contributing to increasing the proportion of the service and tourism sectors in the province's economic structure, creating jobs for tens of thousands of workers in the area, contributing to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and improving the lives of ethnic people in the province.

In the coming time, to fully exploit the potential strengths of tourism in the province, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will implement the contents of the Project to preserve and promote the value of the special national historical relic of Dien Bien Phu battlefield until 2030. Orient organizations and individuals to focus on building technical facilities directly serving tourists in a synchronous and modern direction to meet the increasing needs of tourists.

In addition, coordinate with departments, branches and localities to review and advise on the issuance of mechanisms and policies to encourage economic sectors to invest in the tourism sector. In which, priority is given to special mechanisms to encourage large investors to participate in developing high-end tourism projects in Dien Bien Phu - Pa Khoang National Tourist Area according to the planning approved by the Prime Minister.

Raise community awareness of the benefits of tourism development, mobilize support and encourage people to directly participate in tourism activities. Continue to improve and innovate the effectiveness of tourism promotion information activities; increase budget capital for tourism promotion, advertising, building tourism products and brands of Dien Bien province.

Along with that, maintain and promote tourism development cooperation activities of 8 Northwestern provinces and other domestic and international cooperation activities expanding in four areas, including building policy mechanisms, developing tourism products, promoting and training tourism human resources.
