Double benefit

Than Truong Cooperative, Xuan Luong Commune (Yen The) has the Ban Ven Community Tourism Site, the first 3-star OCOP product of the district in the tourism sector. With the attention and support of the locality and functional sectors, over the years, the Cooperative has maintained and developed well the eco-tourism activities associated with the production and processing of Ban Ven tea - a famous local specialty.

Tourists buy OCOP products as gifts at the Ven village community tourism site (Yen The).

Ms. Ly Thi Hoi, Director of Than Truong Cooperative, said that currently, the Ven Village Community Tourism Site is being invested by the Cooperative to build clusters of community guesthouses, stilt houses, and clean campuses to serve the accommodation needs of tourists from inside and outside the province.

Here, visitors can experience many activities such as: Tea harvesting; visiting farms raising hill chickens and goats; fishing; climbing waterfalls and mountains; exploring the primeval forest of Xuan Lung - Thac Nga; enjoying specialties of Yen The mountains and forests... On average, each year, the Cooperative welcomes tens of thousands of visitors to visit and experience.

To serve the needs of tourists buying gifts, the Cooperative has built an area to display and introduce OCOP products, typical of Yen The district, near the community guesthouse.

Lam Mat tea products of Cuong Thi Food and Agricultural Products Processing Cooperative (Tan Yen) are widely consumed at tourist destinations in the province.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Luyen, Xuong Giang ward ( Bac Giang city) shared: “My family has been to Ban Ven Community Tourism Site three times, and each time we have had interesting experiences. Here there is a spacious space, fresh air, and attractive dishes. Before leaving, we often buy some local OCOP products as gifts such as green tea, honey, and medicinal herbs.”

Currently, the early lychee gardens in Luc Ngan district and Chu town have been harvested; in a few days, the main lychee gardens will also be ripe. This year, the lychee crop is good, tourism services are also vibrant and attractive, thereby promoting the consumption of local OCOP products. It is known that many tourism cooperatives in the above-mentioned areas have designed tours and routes, connected with travel agencies and prepared conditions to welcome tourists to visit and experience.

For example, in Chu town, there are 10 enterprises and cooperatives operating in the tourism sector; about 30 accommodation establishments, shops, and coffee shops. At this time, many units such as Thanh Hai Agricultural Production and Tourism Trade Cooperative, Dong Dao Tourism Cooperative; Dong Bac Cultural Tourism Service Cooperative... have completed the program of sightseeing, experience, photography, lychee picking competition, organizing collective games in lychee gardens; cultural and artistic exchanges; displaying and introducing OCOP products, local specialties (Chu noodles, wild honey, dried lychees...).

Implementing the One Commune One Product program, up to now, Bac Giang has more than 400 OCOP products recognized as 3 stars or higher. Many products are "present" at eco-tourism and community sites; product display and introduction points on routes near tourist areas and sites such as: Tay Yen Tu (Son Dong), Suoi Mo (Luc Nam), Bo Da Pagoda (Viet Yen town), Vinh Nghiem Pagoda (Bac Giang city) ... to meet the needs of tourists to buy specialties and souvenirs.

Building a cultural story for the product

Tourist destinations are an effective channel to promote and introduce OCOP products. On the other hand, OCOP products are one of the factors that make a destination attractive. Connecting OCOP products with tourism will help increase product value, promote local images, help tourists have interesting experiences, and promote economic development.

Tourists visit and shop for local OCOP products at Tay Yen Tu festival (Son Dong).

During the process of visiting and shopping for OCOP products, typical of the locality, tourists not only learn about the source of raw materials, processing and production processes, but also pay special attention to the usage value and cultural stories that the products bring. Therefore, it is necessary to fully exploit the elements that represent the indigenous cultural values crystallized in OCOP products, helping to touch the emotions of tourists.

Understanding that, many units have invested in product stories; designing beautiful, convenient packaging suitable for gift-giving needs. Hanh Phuc Agricultural Cooperative (Viet Yen town) has many products that tourists buy when visiting Bac Giang such as: Gac Lam tea, Lam Mat tea, rice noodles, ginseng brown rice tea...

Each product has a beautiful design and is environmentally friendly; the product not only tells the story of being made from clean raw materials and using safe processes, but also tells the story of the diligence and hard work of the people of Bac Giang. Some units also print famous local tourist attractions on the product packaging, thereby creating an impression on tourists, increasing the value of the product, and strongly spreading the image of Bac Giang to all directions.

The representative of the Department of Agriculture and Environment added that in order to develop and link OCOP products with tourism, in the coming time, in addition to focusing on training, knowledge and skills in market development for the subjects, the Department will continue to support and guide the units to improve packaging, labels, design, and form OCOP product lines as gifts associated with local history and culture.

At the same time, coordinate with relevant units to survey and expand the development of agricultural tourism types, build tours and routes to bring tourists to experience, visit and shop right at traditional craft villages and production facilities of special OCOP products of the province.
