Halal tourism (Muslim-friendly tourism) is a type of tourism that complies with Islamic regulations on food, accommodation, transportation, entertainment and shopping. This is a trend that is growing strongly globally as well as in Vietnam.

The workshop is an opportunity to contribute to raising awareness about Halal, Halal tourism and Halal standards; finding opportunities for Quang Ninh tourism to attract Muslim tourists as well as visitors experiencing Halal tourism, making the locality a leading Muslim-friendly tourist destination in Vietnam. This is also an opportunity for managers, tourism service businesses, researchers to exchange knowledge, share experiences, analyze the current situation and shape a sustainable Halal tourism development strategy in Quang Ninh. The Organizing Committee has received more than 90 presentations on Halal tourism development from scholars, managers and businessmen.

Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hanh spoke.

Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hanh shared that Halal tourism is developing strongly globally. With an open economy and stable environment, Vietnam, especially Quang Ninh province, is deeply integrating into the global Halal value chain. Developing Halal tourism not only opens up opportunities to attract international tourists but also demonstrates respect for culture, beliefs and global consumption trends. With the desire to become a locality that successfully builds tourism that is friendly to the culture and needs of Muslim tourists, Quang Ninh hopes to receive support, sharing and companionship in building and successfully developing Halal tourism.

Ambassador of the Republic of Pakistan to Vietnam Kohdayar Marri shared that to meet the demand for Halal tourism, Quang Ninh needs to improve the quality of services, creating a bridge connecting the two cultures. The province needs a place to pray, a family-friendly environment and food suitable for Muslim culture.

According to Associate Professor Dinh Cong Hoang (Institute of South Asian, West Asian and African Studies), with Muslims accounting for more than 25% of the world's population today, the Halal market is a large and potential market, opening up great opportunities for the development of tourism in Vietnam and Quang Ninh province. With over 80% of provinces and cities capable of providing Halal products to Muslims, especially with beautiful natural landscapes and a long-standing culture and history, Vietnam is a country with great potential and strength to develop Halal economy and tourism. In particular, Quang Ninh with its unique natural and cultural advantages and the World Heritage of Ha Long Bay will be a destination that attracts much attention from this market.

Dr. Bui Thu Thuy (Faculty of Tourism - Ha Long University) and Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Van Huy (Institute of Asia - Pacific Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) said that Quang Ninh is the leading locality in efforts to develop Muslim-friendly tourism in Vietnam. The analysis results show that Muslim-friendly tourism is not only a new driving force for tourism development, but also brings great opportunities to localities, typically Quang Ninh. Therefore, Vietnam needs to soon complete the Halal ecosystem and build a clear and synchronous development strategy to effectively exploit the potential of this special type of tourism.

The Halal market is full of potential and growing rapidly, but still new in Vietnam. The project "Strengthening international cooperation to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry by 2030" was approved by the Prime Minister in February 2023 to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry comprehensively, helping businesses participate deeply and effectively in global Halal product production and supply chains, including Halal tourism.

This is the first restaurant to meet national Halal standards in Quang Ninh.
