Launching "Month of action for the environment" in 2023

World Environment Day 2023 was launched by the United Nations Environment Program with the theme "Solutions to plastic pollution". focusing on implementing the "Anti-plastic pollution" campaign to strongly convey the message of building a sustainable lifestyle, in harmony with nature, rationally using natural resources, biodiversity and adapting to climate change.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee launched the month of action for the environment in 2023.

As a province located at the headland of the country, in recent years, along with economic growth, Lao Cai province is also facing many environmental challenges. With the high speed of industrialization and urbanization, many environmental problems arise such as: increasing waste (wastewater, emissions and solid waste, including plastic waste), resource depletion, air pollution...

Faced with that situation, Lao Cai province always strives to incorporate environmental protection into policies and decisions on socio-economic development of the province with the motto "not trading the environment for the economy".

To address the issue of environmental pollution, Lao Cai province has issued a Project to Reduce Environmental Pollution Due to Plastic Waste in the Province for the period 2020-2025, thereby clearly demonstrating Lao Cai's determination to resolutely implement policies and solutions to control environmental pollution caused by plastic waste, especially disposable plastic products and non-biodegradable plastic bags. Directing sectors and localities to promptly resolve environmental pollution issues that cause public concern and concern.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of “Month of action for the environment”, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People’s Committee, said that with the participation of all levels of sectors, localities, businesses and people, environmental protection activities in Lao Cai province have achieved remarkable results. The awareness of people and businesses has changed positively, complying with the law on environmental protection.

At the launching ceremony of "Month of action for the environment" in 2023, Lao Cai province organized an environmental run and released more than 10,000 animals of various species.

However, there is still a situation of pollution that has not been thoroughly handled. Incidents and environmental pollution still occur. The management and treatment of solid waste in rural areas still has many shortcomings. The awareness of environmental protection of a part of the population is not good, there are not many initiatives, models and dissemination in the community about environmental protection...

In order for environmental protection to be put into practice, Lao Cai province will seriously implement the viewpoint of "considering the environment as one of the three pillars of sustainable development. Innovating the method of environmental management "from passive resolution to proactive prevention". Therefore, Lao Cai province calls on departments and branches to review and perfect the system of policies and laws on environmental protection. Effectively implement the Project to Reduce Environmental Pollution by Plastic Waste in Lao Cai province for the period 2020-2025.

Many young athletes in Lao Cai province participated in the "For the Environment 2023" run.

Promote propaganda and mobilization activities so that the community, businesses and people are jointly responsible for environmental protection. Research, apply pilot and replicate good and effective models of classifying solid waste at source, say no to plastic products and nylon bags that are difficult to decompose, and move towards environmentally friendly products.

Exploit and use natural resources rationally. Gradually innovate production technology and environmental treatment to save resources, protect the environment, and thoroughly control and treat waste.

The Associations, business communities, supermarkets, restaurant chains, hotels, and tourist attractions join hands in efforts to reduce plastic waste. Promote the collection, recycling, and reuse of plastic bags and single-use plastic products.
