Ca Mau Buddhism aims at good humanistic values

Adhering to the principles and purposes of operation according to the regulations of the State and the law, under the direction of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), in recent years, the VBS in Ca Mau province has, together with the people of the whole province, maintained and promoted the strength of the great national unity bloc, actively participated in activities, and contributed responsibly to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, and renewing the homeland.

In the province, the VBS currently has 54 places of worship and 4 places of concentrated religious activities; there are over 300 monks and nuns, over 300 thousand followers and Buddhists. Under the leadership of the Party, the State, the Party committees and authorities at all levels regularly pay attention to and create conditions for religions to operate in accordance with the provisions of the law and comply with local regulations. Every year, important Buddhist holidays such as Buddha's birthday, Thuong Nguyen festival, An Cu Kiet Ha festival, Vu Lan festival... are solemnly organized by the Buddhist Sangha at all levels and take place in accordance with the Charter, content and legal regulations.

According to Ms. Quach Kieu Mai, Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions, the State management of beliefs and religions has been implemented with attention by all levels and sectors. Activities are organized and implemented synchronously. Legitimate requests of religious organizations, individuals and religious establishments are resolved promptly and ensured in accordance with the provisions of law. Party committees and authorities at all levels always pay attention to leading and closely directing religious work. Since then, the religious situation in the province has been maintained stably, political security, social order and safety have been ensured; creating a close relationship between religious organizations and authorities at all levels. In general, religious organizations believe in the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, comply with local regulations, and actively participate in charitable and humanitarian activities.

In addition, together with authorities at all levels and places of worship, Buddhists actively participate in the fight against and eliminate those who take advantage of religion and illegally proselytize; coordinate with functional agencies to fight and denounce crimes right from the grassroots level; participate in ensuring political security and social order and safety in the locality, making religious activities increasingly stable and operating in accordance with the law; promptly detect and fight against plots and tricks of taking advantage of religion to sabotage the Party and the State; and prevent complicated religious issues from occurring in the province.

Venerable Thich Nhuan Tri, Deputy Secretary and Chief of Office of the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, said: “The Buddhist activities of monks, nuns, and Buddhists in the province have always received attention and favorable conditions from the authorities at all levels and the Fatherland Front. Especially on important holidays, such as Buddha's birthday, the leaders of the province, the Fatherland Front, provincial departments, agencies, and authorities all come to visit and encourage. That is the source of encouragement for monks, nuns, and Buddhists to strive for the good humanistic values of Buddhism, to build a good life, to promote the spirit of solidarity, and to actively participate in local activities.”

The highlight in recent years is that monks, nuns and Buddhists in the province have always actively responded to patriotic emulation movements, benefiting the country and the people, responding to campaigns launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and its member organizations such as: the campaign "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas"; the campaign "Day for the poor", "Repaying gratitude". In particular, it has focused on charity and humanitarian work, mobilizing, donating, supporting and helping people affected by natural disasters, storms and floods; helping people in difficult and disadvantaged circumstances; building bridges, rural roads, and housing for the poor; donating clean water projects; awarding scholarships, bicycles, and school supplies to poor students...

Venerable Thich Nhuan Tri said: “With the Buddhist tradition of “Protecting the nation and protecting the people”, mutual love of the nation, Ca Mau Buddhism always has many positive contributions and creatively applies the compassionate teachings of Buddhism to all areas of social life. Every year, the Committees of the Provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha have mobilized worshiping establishments, monasteries, monks, nuns, Buddhists, and benefactors inside and outside the province to support money and goods, contributing more than 40 billion VND to the province's social security activities in 2024 alone”.

Guide Buddhists to be good, live a good life, compete in labor and production, and actively participate in movements and activities in the locality. In particular, promote the nation's traditional morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", do better in social charity work, and work with departments and branches to have many forms and measures to help those who are less fortunate in life".

With an enthusiastic and confident spirit, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Ca Mau province has been and is continuing to promote traditions, strengthen solidarity, continue to respond to and participate in patriotic emulation movements and campaigns to contribute to building and protecting the Fatherland in the spirit of Buddhist teachings, and make more contributions to the socio-economic development of the homeland and country./.
