On the morning of April 11, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Quy Kien worked with the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam on the progress of the implementation of the Project "Overall assessment of mineral potential in the Central Central region to serve socio-economic development" (Central Central Project).
According to Mr. Duong Ngoc Tinh (Central Central Geological Federation), Project Manager, up to now, the Vietnam Geology and Minerals Department has investigated and synthesized the current status of 32 gold ore areas, of which the remaining resources of one mine have been assessed and transferred to the locality for management and planning of exploration and exploitation.
Notably, the units have made preliminary assessments at a scale of 1:25,000 in 12 gold ore areas, with forecast resources of more than 10 tons of gold and nearly 16.5 tons of silver; and identified 11 large-scale prospective areas for further detailed assessments.
The project has also conducted a preliminary assessment at a scale of 1:25,000 in 6 copper ore areas, discovered and delineated two large-scale prospective areas for detailed assessment. Of these, two new copper mines have been discovered and are being assessed in detail. The forecasted resources up to the present time, level 333+334a, are more than 154,000 tons of copper metal.

In addition, the project has investigated and evaluated the reserves of stone blocks for cladding in 17 areas, focusing on stones of good quality, beautiful colors and patterns with industrial minerals. The results have delimited and transferred the planning for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals as construction materials in the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
In the coming time, the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam will continue to delineate areas with mineral prospects and areas with the potential for deep hidden mines to continue assessing minerals for the 2025-2030 period and the period after 2030.
Deputy Minister Tran Quy Kien assessed that the investigation results of the Central Central Project have high economic value, clarifying the potential of mineral resources in the Central Central region, serving the implementation of general socio-economic development plans as well as plans for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals.
The Deputy Minister requested that the Vietnam Geology and Minerals Department direct construction units to urgently review the workload based on newly discovered data on geology and minerals, areas proposed for large-scale mineral assessment to propose appropriate adjustments, meeting the set goals and tasks and achieving high investment efficiency.
