In the first episode of the OpenAI Podcast released on June 18, OpenAI CEO and co-founder Sam Altman shared his personal views on the impact of artificial intelligence on future generations, using his own newborn son as an example.

Altman announced the birth of his first son on February 22. In a conversation with host Andrew Mayne, he said his son will grow up with more opportunities, but will not be smarter than AI. The OpenAI CEO said it is important to think about what AI can bring to the next generation rather than focusing on what it can take away.

“I don't think my kids will care that they're not smarter than AI,” says Sam Altman.

However, he also acknowledged that advances in AI could pose challenges for society. Altman worries that people will increasingly rely on tools like ChatGPT and form “semi-social” relationships, which have many potential impacts.

“The misuse of AI will become a problem. People will develop parasocial relationships that are somewhat problematic and create new barriers. However, we should also look at the positive elements of AI,” said the CEO of OpenAI.

Altman describes himself as “very child-centric” and says people should have more than one child. He also shares how ChatGPT played a big role in his parenting. During the first few weeks of his son’s life, he used the tool frequently to ask questions about newborn care.

“Obviously people can take care of babies without knowing about ChatGPT for a long time, but I don't know how I would do it without it," says Sam Altman.

However, he also acknowledged the weaknesses of the AI chatbot developed by his own company. Altman said ChatGPT can be delusional, meaning it can give false information. However, many people still put their full trust in this tool. The OpenAI CEO recommends that users double-check the information provided by artificial intelligence.

“People have a very high level of trust in ChatGPT, which is interesting. It should just be a technology, something you don't absolutely trust," added Sam Altman.
