Increase competitiveness

In order to develop sustainable and in-depth industry, Binh Duong has been actively supporting enterprises to develop supporting industries. Accordingly, Binh Duong has invested in developing 4 supporting industrial clusters with an area of 75 hectares each; deploying 1 more mechanical industrial park to contribute to promoting the development of supporting industries. In addition, supporting industry enterprises in the province are being facilitated to develop, gradually participating in the global supply chain. The business community expects that supporting industries will create connections, specialization, and soon form a system of suppliers of raw materials and manufacturers of components with high technology content in the country.

According to Ms. Trinh Thi Hong Chau, Director of Kim Chung Mechanical Production, Service and Trading Company Limited, although many enterprises in the province have good capacity in some fields such as molds of all kinds, mechanical components, electric cables, plastic components... the linkage to develop supporting industry products of domestic enterprises is still low, the cost is high, so it lacks competitiveness. To promote the development of the mechanical components manufacturing sector, the State needs to have strong policies to encourage the development of manufacturing materials, while selecting and focusing on the development of related industries... “In recent times, some mechanical products have been produced with good quality, equivalent to the quality of products of developed countries in the region. Currently, the demand of the supporting industry market is very large, so many enterprises have boldly invested to improve production capacity, focusing on developing quality product lines, aiming at exporting mechanical products. However, the supply chain for the domestic market is still weak,” said Ms. Trinh Thi Hong Chau.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Tong, Vice President and Chief Representative of the Southern Region of the Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries (VASI), affirmed that Binh Duong possesses favorable factors such as an advancededucation and training system, including universities: Eastern International, Viet Duc, Thu Dau Mot, vocational training schools...; modern traffic infrastructure; key industrial parks, the World Trade Center (WTC), scientific research space, incubators, smart manufacturing and green transformation centers... These are favorable conditions and an ideal environment for the formation and development of the Binh Duong Association of Supporting Industries (BASI) to contribute to promoting the development of the province's supporting industry in particular and the Southern region in general. VASI currently has nearly 400 members nationwide, regularly organizing courses and consulting programs; participating in and organizing domestic and international fairs and exhibitions; connecting businesses through B2B activities (business, direct transactions between businesses and businesses); At the same time, VASI is supporting the implementation of initiatives and projects on the development of the supporting industry. VASI is also making efforts to support the development of BASI.

Building pillars

Mr. Nguyen Viet Long, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, said that Binh Duong is currently the leading locality in the country in industrial development and second in attracting foreign investment capital. With a strategy to promote the application of high technology, digital transformation and innovation, Binh Duong has issued a project to develop the mechanical industry until 2025, with a vision to 2030, along with many synchronous policies to form a modern industrial ecosystem, connecting the whole region, creating a lever for sustainable growth.

“The precision engineering and manufacturing industry is one of the important pillars of modern industry. This industry has a growth rate of 9.28%/year in recent times, showing the outstanding efforts of enterprises, the support from the State, and the trend of increasing investment in this field by domestic and foreign enterprises,” said Mr. Nguyen Viet Long.

Recently, at the 22nd session (special session), the Provincial People's Council approved the Master Plan for Construction (scale 1/5,000) of Bac Tan Uyen 1 Industrial Park (Mechanical Industrial Park), invested by Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO) with a total capital of over VND 26,000 billion. This industrial park contributes to transforming the economic structure of Binh Duong towards industrialization and modernization.

Mr. Tran Ba Duong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of THACO, said that the specialized mechanical industrial park not only serves the automobile industry but also expands to many other industrial fields. The establishment of the mechanical industrial park will contribute to solving the shortage of raw materials, saving time and transportation costs, while creating opportunities for enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, to promote cooperation and mutual support, develop together, participate in the global value chain of precision mechanical industries as well as some mechanical manufacturing industries to ensure that supporting industries have conditions to develop. This will attract multinational corporations to invest in large-scale projects in Vietnam.

Mr. Vo Van Minh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, welcomed the establishment of the Binh Duong Supporting Industry Association (BASI) and said that BASI will be an important bridge to promote the supporting industry in Binh Duong and the Southern region to develop to its full potential. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Home Affairs and related sectors to support BASI in its professional activities during its operation.
