Breakthrough development from unique strengths

At the working session with Long Ho District Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Lu Quang Ngoi praised the efforts and leadership of the locality in implementing the Resolution 2023.

Along with that, promote the application of information technology and digital transformation in each industry; continue to remove difficulties, support businesses to have conditions for development; attract investment capital; promote the development of high-quality industry, agriculture , tourism infrastructure, and trade.

The transformation of specific agricultural regions

Located "next to" Vinh Long urban area, Phuoc Hau commune has the unique strengths of a purely agricultural land, gradually transforming in the process of urbanization; at the same time, maintaining the traditional agricultural strength as the "foundation", aiming for diverse, fast but sustainable development.

The last days of the year in Phuoc Hau vegetable area, an urgent atmosphere but full of smiles, sparkling with confidence about the recent successful harvests.

As the basis for breakthrough changes in thinking and new ways of doing things, the atmosphere is preparing to enter December with cold early winds, while the fields are filled with warm faith. The traditional vegetable growing areas continue to “paint fresh strokes” to form a green belt along the edge of Vinh Long City.

Formed over the past few decades, Phuoc Hau vegetable area (Long Ho) is like a green belt on the edge of Vinh Long city. The advantage of the suburban area has helped the production and consumption of vegetables become more favorable. People's lives are increasingly stable, the appearance of the commune is increasingly renewed and urbanized.

Mr. Tran Van Hien - Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Phuoc Hau Safe Vegetable Cooperative said: "The cooperative has 30 members. The total output is 980 tons/year with about 20 varieties of leafy vegetables, coriander and tubers. The cooperative is continuing to find more outlets, expand the market, maintain and expand the production area according to VietGAP standards."

According to Chairman of Phuoc Hau Commune People's Committee Nguyen The Quan, the commune plans 3 hamlets: Phuoc Nguyen A, Phuoc Loi A and part of Phuoc Hanh A hamlet to invest in developing trade and services. Currently, these 3 hamlets have a high urbanization rate and no more agricultural land.

For a part of Phuoc Hanh A, Phuoc Hanh B, Phuoc Loi B and Phuoc Loi C hamlets, agricultural economic development is developed. Recently, the People's Committee of the commune has planned a part of Phuoc Hanh A hamlet and a part of Phuoc Loi B hamlet to develop export crop areas.

The commune also planned Phuoc Loi B and Phuoc Loi C hamlets to become high-tech agricultural production areas. Accordingly, canals were dredged to ensure irrigation water, dyke projects were built to prevent floods, store fresh water, prevent saltwater intrusion, and combine with rural roads to ensure smooth traffic.

Phuoc Hau commune's efforts aim to be recognized as an advanced NTM, with a total investment resource of more than 46.7 billion VND. Of which, the provincial budget is nearly 28.3 billion VND, the district budget is more than 17.6 billion VND, the commune budget is 1.5 billion VND, the rest is mobilized from the community and other sources.

Through the program of building new rural areas, agricultural production has made many advances in crops, livestock, and the application of science and technology. People's awareness of the role of rural areas as the main subjects has been increasingly enhanced, the material and spiritual life of rural people has been clearly improved, and the material life and average income per capita in rural areas have been clearly improved.

“Talking” numbers create confidence in development

Over the years, Long Ho district has always maintained its strength in investing in developing the rural transport system, through creatively mobilizing many resources, constantly changing the face of the countryside.

In 2023, Long Ho invested in building 19,359m of grade C rural roads (inter-hamlet) with a total cost of 14.73 billion VND, of which 8.33 billion VND was mobilized from the people, the rest was from the counterpart budget.

Up to now, 100% of hamlets and villages have rural roads to the hamlet center. In the first half of the term (2020-2025), 22.45km of grade A roads; 1.44km of grade B roads and 54.73km of grade C roads have been invested in building.

Newly opened roads gradually complete the rural transport system in a synchronous manner, making travel and transportation of goods and agricultural products extremely convenient.

Over the years, Long Ho has always maintained its strength in investing in developing the rural transport system, through creatively mobilizing many resources, constantly changing the face of the countryside.

In addition, to help people develop production, the district has supported cooperatives, businesses and gardeners to participate in many exhibition activities connecting supply and demand inside and outside the province. Thereby, it has supported the consumption of many products: eel meat, eel sausage, one-sun-dried eel, giant catfish, pineapple fish, one-sun-dried red tilapia, one-sun-dried pineapple fish, Edaw longan, Peruvian chili, carved watermelon for Tet...

At the same time, establish the Long Ho District Business Association, regularly update market information of importing countries (China, EU, Japan...) to establishments and businesses.

Tourism activities continue to recover, the number of tourists visiting tourist attractions increases, adding momentum to the development of the locality, which has its own unique strengths in tourism. The whole district has 2 travel agencies, 18 tourist accommodation establishments (homestays). Of which, 9 establishments meet ASEAN Homestay standards, 6 hotels meet 1-star standards... and over 20 places to visit fruit gardens and seedlings.

Mr. Ho Van Minh - Provincial Party Committee member, Secretary of Long Ho District Party Committee, said: Up to now, the whole district has 10 communes recognized as meeting NTM standards, of which 5 communes are recognized as advanced NTM communes (Long Phuoc, Binh Hoa Phuoc, Loc Hoa, Phu Duc, Hoa Ninh), Phuoc Hau commune has achieved 19/19 advanced NTM criteria.

Long Ho will continue to mobilize resources in building new rural areas; promote the linkage of green and clean agricultural development associated with tourism development.

At the same time, focus on implementing well the Party building work; in which, continue to promote studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle, strengthen inspection, supervision and enforcement of Party discipline, pay attention to building a contingent of cadres to meet the requirements of tasks in the new period.

In 2023, the district Party Committee, government, and departments have actively and well performed the political tasks of socio-economic development, national defense and security, and building the political system. The results of the implementation of the District Party Committee's Resolution during the year, the organization assessed 16/17 targets; of which, 11 targets were estimated to be achieved and exceeded, and 1 target has not been assessed. Specifically, the production value of the agricultural and fishery sector is estimated at over VND 2,876.3 billion, reaching 103.59% of the resolution, up 2.64% over the same period; the production value of industry and handicrafts is estimated at over VND 2,795 billion, up more than 4% over the same period. During the year, tourism activities continued to recover, the number of tourists visiting reached 220,300, up 36% over the same period, total revenue is estimated at VND 88.12 billion, up 40% over the same period.

The new and outstanding point of the locality in leading and directing the implementation of the resolution in various fields is to focus on developing effective production models, increasing income for people such as: goat and cow breeding models with high quality in the direction of bio-safety and rice production to respond to climate change.

The livelihoods and economic development conditions in the 4 island communes mainly rely on fruit gardens and aquaculture. In the "mainland" area, the economy is still agriculture and livestock. The communes of Long Phuoc, Phuoc Hau, and Tan Hanh develop more vegetables. Basically, agriculture is still the "spearhead" and the foundation of the district. Therefore, the district is very interested in how to build raw material areas, apply clean agricultural production, high-tech agriculture...

Long Ho district also has the advantage of having Hoa Phu Industrial Park, Co Chien Industrial Line (Thanh Duc commune), contributing to job creation, service development... The district is very interested in how to ensure workers' health, have stable housing and a better life. Regarding the district planning, the planning of communes and districts is interested in calling for investment in residential areas and small residential clusters to meet the housing needs of workers and people in the district.
