On the morning of September 22, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper in collaboration with the Center for Rural Development - Saemaul Undong, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University organized a direct and online forum "Developing agricultural and rural tourism associated with the consumption of agricultural specialties and OCOP products".
At Thai Binh bridge, comrade Nguyen Quang Hung, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and delegates attended the forum at Thai Binh bridge.
Attending the forum were Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). At Thai Binh bridge, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended the forum.
In recent times, agricultural and rural tourism has developed strongly. Many agricultural and rural tourism models have been established in many localities, promoting their effectiveness, becoming destinations attracting the attention of tourists, contributing to the sustainable development of the rural economy. According to incomplete statistics, as of June 2023, the whole country has nearly 500 agricultural and rural tourism models in operation. However, agricultural and rural tourism still faces many difficulties and limitations in planning, development orientation, quality assessment criteria and management capacity.
The forum is a channel connecting scientists, experts, managers, travel businesses with localities, connecting and proposing solutions to promote trade for rural tourism products, promoting the consumption of agricultural specialties and OCOP products, developing rural tourism activities in depth in the current context.
Speaking at the forum, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized that developing agricultural and rural tourism is one of the key solutions and tasks of the National Target Program on New Rural Development for the 2021-2025 period, based on changing the mindset from agricultural production to rural economic development, contributing to supporting localities to effectively and sustainably implement new rural criteria. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented programs to promote, advertise, and support the development of agricultural and rural tourism products based on the advantages of agricultural production activities, cultural and ecological characteristics of localities; building, developing and positioning rural tourism destination brands. In addition, the Ministry has also piloted a number of models for developing agricultural tourism, eco-tourism, tourism associated with nature conservation, craft village tourism, smart tourism, zero-emission tourism, etc. applying digital transformation solutions.
After the discussion period, the forum received many valuable shares, contributions, stories and lessons learned in developing agricultural and rural tourism associated with the consumption of OCOP products from localities, enterprises, cooperatives, and tourism communities across the country. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will receive recommendations and contributions from delegates to evaluate, review, improve, and supplement more fully mechanisms, policies, and resources to encourage and facilitate agricultural and rural tourism to spread strongly and develop sustainably.
At the forum, the inauguration ceremony of the humanistic OCOP space took place at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University.
