To promote the production of high-quality fruit trees for domestic and export markets, the National Agricultural Extension Center in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Tho organized an Agricultural Extension Forum in Phu Tho province.
Grapefruit growing model to meet domestic consumption and export needs of Mr. Vu Van Luyen's family in Chan Mong commune, Phu Tho province |
Mr. Vu Van Luyen's family in Chan Mong commune (Phu Tho province) currently grows about 2 hectares of Doan Hung grapefruit. In recent years, the application of scientific and technical advances has been actively supported by the grassroots agricultural extension staff, so Mr. Luyen's fruit tree production is no longer as difficult as before. Mr. Luyen's grapefruit garden synchronously applies technical advances, intensive cultivation to improve product quality and design, invests in energy-saving irrigation systems, and lighting systems. Since then, the income from grapefruit trees of Mr. Luyen's family as well as households in Chan Mong commune has improved. On average, 1 hectare of grapefruit helps people earn from 150 - 200 million VND/year, with some households earning over 500 million VND/year.
Mr. Luyen excitedly shared: "When I followed the scientific rules of agricultural extension, the quality was higher than if I had done it myself... I harvested on time and the selling price was better than other places."
Phu Tho is one of the localities with great potential for diverse fruit tree development with a total area of nearly 36,000 hectares. Based on the planning of fruit tree production areas, assessment of potential and market demand, the local agricultural sector has paid attention to restoring and developing many typical and specialty products with high economic value. Some products have been protected by intellectual property, granted OCOP star certification and have brands in the market such as Doan Hung grapefruit, Cao Phong orange, Ban Nguyen green banana, etc.
In the whole province of Phu Tho, many large-scale concentrated fruit growing areas have been formed that can meet domestic consumption and export demand. The production and consumption chains of agricultural products through the connecting role of cooperatives and cooperative groups ensure food safety issues that are well received by the market and trusted by consumers. Mr. Vu Duy Linh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Phu Tho province said that the direction of agricultural production development in general, fruit production in particular in the locality has many positive changes. The application of science and technology and safe production standards has been widely deployed, contributing to improving the productivity, quality and value of local agricultural products.
In the context of our country's agricultural sector shifting towards green growth, fruit trees play an important role in promoting the growth target of the fruit and vegetable industry, improving the livelihoods of rural people and exploiting local potential and advantages. In 2024, the area of fruit trees nationwide will reach more than 1.3 million hectares. Fruit tree output contributes to the total export turnover of the whole industry of more than 7 billion USD.
Currently, many countries are setting strict technical barriers to imported agricultural products. Achieving standards on food safety, traceability, production according to GAP processes and having growing area codes are becoming prerequisites for Vietnamese agricultural products to penetrate demanding markets such as the EU, Japan, Korea, etc. In addition, the demand for clean products with clear traceability of domestic consumers is also becoming urgent. This is motivating the local agricultural sector to support farmers and cooperatives to produce fruit trees according to safe processes and achieve certifications such as OCOP, VietGAP, GlobalGAP, etc.
Mr. Le Quoc Thanh - Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center affirmed that agricultural production according to advanced processes, achieving high quality and applying technology and digital transformation is an important premise for the Agriculture & Environment sector to expand export markets.
Phu Tho, like many localities in the Northern midland and mountainous region, has the advantage of developing local specialty fruit trees. Based on the advantages of climate and soil as well as promoting the application of technology and digital transformation in production, many specialized fruit growing areas are being formed and developed, bringing high economic efficiency to farmers, meeting domestic consumption needs and aiming for export.
