The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) said the incident happened on June 7 during a 2,115-km flight from Toronto to St John's in Newfoundland province.

"The flight captain was incapacitated during the flight," TSB said in an emailed statement. "Another pilot, who was on vacation and also on board, took over and landed the aircraft safely. Emergency medical services were on site upon landing."
It is known that the "reluctant" pilot was on a commercial flight to another location for duty.
It is unclear exactly how many people were on board at the time. According to Air Canada's website, the airline typically operates an Airbus A-220 with a capacity of 140 passengers.
