Crew-10 concludes mission on ISS with many important experiments

After nearly five months of working in space, four international astronauts of the Crew-10 mission left the International Space Station (ISS) on SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft, beginning a 17.5-hour journey back to Earth.

Crew-10 crew members include commander Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers (both from NASA), Takuya Onishi (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency - JAXA) and Kirill Peskov (Russia's Space Agency - Roscosmos). The ship is expected to land in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California (USA) at 11:33 a.m. on August 9 (Eastern US time), or 10:33 p.m. the same day Vietnam time.

This is the first time a crew from NASA's Commercial Space Program has landed off the coast of California.

During 146 days in orbit, the Crew-10 crew conducted more than 200 scientific experiments, including studies of plant growth and cell responses to the effects of microgravity.

NASA stressed that astronauts brought back to Earth “important and urgent research” to serve science and practical applications.

Crew-10 left Earth on March 14, 2025, replacing Crew-9 – including two American astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams who were stuck on the ISS for 9 months due to an engine failure of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft.

They were supposed to be in orbit for just eight days to test the Starliner's first manned flight in June 2024, but the problem prevented the ship from returning safely.

Wilmore, who has flown on four different spacecraft and accumulated 464 days in space, announced his retirement from NASA earlier this week, ending his 25-year career at the agency. Williams, meanwhile, will remain with the agency as a member of the Astronaut Corps.

A week before Crew-10 left the ISS, four members of the successor mission docked to the ISS, including astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke (both from the US), Kimiya Yui (Japan) and Oleg Platonov (Russia). They will have six months of “on-duty” on the ISS./.
