According to VNA correspondent in Moscow, on September 26, the plenary session of the “ World Nuclear Week” Forum took place in the capital of the Russian Federation. The event lasted from September 25-30, gathering representatives of the nuclear industry of many countries to discuss the development orientation of the industry.
At the event, speakers affirmed that nuclear technology today is no longer limited but has been widely applied in medicine, space exploration, electric vehicles, digital technology and improving the living environment, becoming a part of daily life.
General Director of the Russian Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachev emphasized that nuclear energy is an irreplaceable choice if we want to build a world model of sustainable development, rich in energy, safe and environmentally friendly.
He affirmed that the direct guidance of senior leaders of each country plays a key role in ensuring political will and strategic direction for this industry.
Currently, nuclear energy accounts for about 20% of Russia's electricity supply, in some places up to 40%. Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to increase this ratio to 25% by 2045 and from 2042 Russia will produce 29 GW of nuclear power.
Sharing his experience at the forum, Belarusian Energy Minister Denis Moroz said that before building the nuclear power plant, the country did not have enough electricity for winter heating needs.
Thanks to the development of nuclear power, Belarus now has 40% of its electricity from this source, reducing 20 million tons of CO2 emissions each year, while contributing to solving global environmental problems.
Also at the meeting, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi noted the responsibility for the consequences of using nuclear technology, and affirmed that the IAEA will continue to support governments in safety management.
Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan - two countries promoting the construction of nuclear power plants - both appreciate the benefits of this field for energy security, diversifying the energy structure, economic development as well as non-energy applications such as medicine and agriculture.
Speaking on the sidelines of the forum with a VNA reporter in Russia, Mr. Vladimir Aptekarev - Deputy Director of Rosatom's Mechanical Engineering Department, in charge of commercializing floating energy solutions - said that floating nuclear power plant technology is a suitable solution for Vietnam, thanks to its convenient deployment location, fast construction time, and no need for complicated infrastructure. Rosatom is ready to provide solutions and cooperate if Vietnam has a need.
The World Atomic Week Forum, organized by the state corporation Rosatom on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Russia's atomic energy industry, attracted about 40,000 participants from 118 countries. The Forum had many discussion sessions on topics such as "Cheap clean energy", "Industrial innovation: Improving production", "Ecology: Making the planet cleaner", "Advanced medicine: Protecting human health", "Digital breakthrough", "Mobility: Logistics without borders", "Comfortable environment" and "Science and education: Drivers of progress"./.
