President Zelenskyy said he was not afraid of Mr. Trump

(CLO) In the context of many Western leaders expressing fear of US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy affirmed that he does not share that feeling.

He also denied reports that the bilateral meeting in Washington took place in a tense atmosphere.

Speaking in an interview published on November 9, President Zelenskyy said: "Everyone in the world is afraid of US President Donald Trump. That's the truth."

However, when asked if this was true for him, the Ukrainian leader replied firmly: "No." He added: "We are not enemies of the United States. We are friends, why should we be afraid?"

Mr. Zelenskyy emphasized that President Trump was elected by the American people, and "must respect their choice, just as I was chosen by the Ukrainian people."

He affirmed the strong bilateral relationship: "The United States has been our strategic partner for many years, perhaps even decades and centuries," pointing out that the two countries share core values.
