Regular Government meeting in April assesses socio-economic situation

The Prime Minister requested that Government members focus on discussing the socio -economic development situation without embellishing or defaming, and to strengthen the trust of the people and businesses.

On May 4, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the regular Government meeting in April 2024 to assess the socio-economic situation in April and the first 4 months of 2024; the allocation and disbursement of public investment capital; the implementation of 03 National Target Programs; assessment of the direction and administration of the Government, the Prime Minister and many other important issues.

Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Ministers Le Minh Khai and Tran Luu Quang; Ministers, Heads of ministerial-level agencies and Government agencies; representatives of leaders of a number of Central Party Committees, Commissions and agencies and the National Assembly; and leaders of a number of economic groups.

Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Government members to focus on discussing the socio-economic development situation in April and the first four months of the year, the key directions and tasks in May and the coming time, focusing on discussing in a spirit of neither beautifying nor defaming, creating an exciting atmosphere, and strengthening the trust of the people and businesses.

Among them, analyze, evaluate, and clarify the results achieved in various fields; point out good, creative, innovative, and effective practices in practice to continue promoting and replicating; what has not been done well; causes; limitations, weaknesses, difficulties, obstacles, and major bottlenecks of ministries, branches, localities, people, and businesses.

Emphasizing the determination of individual roles and responsibilities and inspection and supervision work in the process of performing tasks, the Prime Minister requested analysis, assessment and forecast of the situation in the coming time to propose and focus on implementing tasks and solutions in May and the coming time.

Among them, analyzing the context, the situation in May and the coming time, what is new and different from the first months of the year; key tasks and solutions in the coming time; new and breakthrough solutions, aiming to continue stabilizing the macro economy, promoting growth, trade, investment, developing all types of markets, mechanisms and policies to remove difficulties and obstacles for people and businesses; developing culture, society, ensuring social security; organizing high school graduation exams and university admissions; ensuring national defense and security; promoting foreign affairs..., especially the task of preparing for the Conference of the Central Executive Committee and the 7th Session of the 15th National Assembly; at the same time responding to emerging issues such as droughts, storms and floods.

The meeting assessed that the socio-economic situation in April continued to change positively and achieved important results, with some areas improving more clearly than in March and the first quarter.

The macro economy is basically stable and continues to recover positively, inflation is under control, and major balances of the economy are ensured. The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.07% compared to the previous month, the average increase in 4 months was 3.93% compared to the same period.

State budget revenue in the first 4 months is estimated to reach 43.1% of the yearly estimate and increase 10.1% over the same period, ensuring the needs of socio-economic development, national defense, security and social security.

Total import and export turnover of goods in April is estimated at 61.20 billion USD, up 15% over the same period last year; the total for the first 4 months reached 238.88 billion USD, up 15.2% over the same period last year; trade surplus was 8.4 billion USD.

Disbursement of public investment capital has improved, estimated at 17.46% of the Prime Minister's plan in the first 4 months, 1.81% higher than the same period last year.

In the first four months, total registered foreign direct investment (FDI) reached nearly 9.3 billion USD, up 4.5%, and realized FDI capital was estimated at 6.3 billion USD, up 7.4% over the same period; many large global technology enterprises wish to cooperate and invest on a large scale in Vietnam's electronics, semiconductor, renewable energy, etc. industries.

All three sectors of agriculture, industry and services continued to recover positively. The index of industrial production (IIP) for the whole industry in the first four months increased by 6% compared to the same period last year; industrial production grew in 54/63 localities.

The number of international visitors to our country in April reached nearly 1.6 million, up 58.2% over the same period; in the first 4 months, it reached 6.2 million, up 68.3% over the same period last year and up 3.9% over the same period in 2019.

In April, more than 15,300 enterprises were newly established, an increase of 55% compared to March; more than 29,700 enterprises returned to operation, bringing the total number of newly established enterprises and enterprises returning to operation in 04 months to 81,300 enterprises, an increase of 3% over the same period.

The whole country continues to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles for production and business of people and enterprises, especially for projects and backlogs. Many international organizations continue to positively assess and forecast optimistically about Vietnam's economic growth in 2024.

Cultural and social fields were promoted; many unique cultural and artistic activities were organized on the occasion of Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day, International Labor Day 01/05; actively prepared well for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory.

Social security, employment and livelihoods for the people are given attention and implemented effectively. Institutional building and improvement, administrative reform, and national digital transformation continue to be given attention and promoted.

The work of preventing and combating corruption, negativity, practicing thrift and combating waste continues to be focused on. Foreign affairs and international integration are proactively and effectively implemented; focusing on promoting the implementation of international commitments and agreements; Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena continue to be enhanced./.
