In just the first 3 months of the year, 5 sets were released. Vietnamese movies has surpassed the 100 billion VND revenue mark, always topping the box office revenue chart after its release. The Avengers, The Billionaire Kiss, Ghost Lamp, The Ancestor's House, The Possessed. Among them, there are films that have earned more than 300 billion. This is a good sign for Vietnamese films when they beat many blockbusters from abroad.
It can be seen that the horror film genre with the success of Ghost Lamp, Ancestral House, and Ghost in the Palace are dominating. This genre of film attracts viewers because of the ghost stories originating from folk legends. Beliefs, worship customs, spiritual culture, and many unusual phenomena in life are effectively exploited by filmmakers to arouse the curiosity of the audience. The makeup effects and cinematography in the films are relatively good quality, creating beautiful and impressive frames.
Two romantic movies : The Four Guardians, The Billionaire Kiss Released during Tet, the most popular movie season of the year for Vietnamese cinema, it has good revenue, lasting for more than a month. Many opinions say that the effect of social networks with cut clips has helped movies shown in theaters become more popular. PR and marketing campaigns with the enthusiastic participation of the cast also contribute to boosting revenue. This method partly helps Vietnamese movies have an advantage over imported movies in the process of reaching local audiences.
However, the above films are not really convincing when the artistic quality is far from the revenue. The script is not really attractive, the character's personality is controversial due to inconsistency, sometimes making people laugh blandly. The actors' acting also creates a lot of controversy when they do not fully portray the characters' emotions. Therefore, the social factors and messages that the producers want to convey in the film become forced and illustrative. Some directors, screenwriters, and producers come from the theater, so the way of expression still tends to be interpretation, using dialogue to describe the character's mood more than using images and specific details of the seventh art.
As the April 30 and May 1 holidays approach, cinemas will have a series of new works released by teams familiar to Vietnamese audiences such as Tunnel: Sun in the Dark, Detective Kien, Flip Side 8: Sun Bracelet, Finding the Body. These films are expected to bring more quality works of art.
