On August 18, 1965, on the coastal land of Van Tuong (belonging to Binh Son district, now in Van Tuong commune), the army and people of Quang Ngai, in coordination with the main force of Military Region V, heroically defeated the large-scale operation of the US Marines - the most elite force of the US army. The victory was a brilliant milestone, opening the climax of "Finding the Americans to fight, finding the puppets to destroy" throughout the Southern battlefield.
