At the reception, the Deputy Prime Minister assessed that the Vietnam-Australia relationship has developed very well in recent times, notably two-way trade reaching 15.7 billion USD in 2022, an increase of 26.7% compared to 2021, making Australia the 7th largest trade partner of Vietnam and Vietnam the 10th largest trade partner of Australia.

Regarding investment, Australia has 590 projects in Vietnam with a total investment capital of nearly 2 billion USD, ranking 20th out of 141 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, while Vietnam has 88 investment projects in Australia with a total capital of more than 590 million USD, mainly in the fields of agriculture, forestry, wholesale and retail, and manufacturing.

Special Envoy Nicholas Moore said that the Australian Government and business community highly appreciate the "quality" of the Vietnam-Australia relationship, and affirmed that relations with Vietnam are a priority for the Australian Government.

The two sides discussed in depth measures to more effectively exploit the potential for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of trade and investment, through raising awareness among the business communities and consumers of the two countries, expanding market access opportunities, and cooperating to improve business capacity.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always listens to and accompanies investors in removing difficulties and building an increasingly favorable investment and business environment.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang asked Australia to support and share experiences with Vietnam in areas such as renewable energy, digital transformation, green transformation, and climate change response, which are common development trends in the world .

Responding to the Deputy Prime Minister's proposal, Mr. Nicholas Moore, who was appointed as Special Envoy for Southeast Asia in November 2022, affirmed that Australia is ready to share experiences and cooperate with Vietnam in the above-mentioned fields because in the development process, each country has issues that need to be solved and priorities that need to be focused on.

The Deputy Prime Minister proposed that the Australian Government give Vietnam a worthy position in the Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 so that the cooperative relationship between the two countries can develop better and better, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, for peace, stability and prosperous development in the region and the world.

Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations on February 26, 1973 and upgraded the relationship to Comprehensive Partnership in 2009, Enhanced Comprehensive Partnership in 2015 and Strategic Partnership in March 2018.
