Bao Lac women play a pivotal role in economic development

With activities to help each other develop the economy , support members to start and run businesses..., the Women's Union at all levels of Bao Lac district has been opening up opportunities for many women to become rich legitimately, becoming typical examples in economic development.

Previously, the agricultural land area was used by Ms. Luc Thi Hoa's family, a member of the Women's Union of Phieng Pan hamlet, Hung Thinh commune, to grow rice, but the economic efficiency was not high, so she converted nearly 1,000 m2 of rice fields to raise snails. Due to adapting to the climate and soil conditions, and having techniques in raising, the snails developed well. After 4 months of raising, the snails reached a weight of about 35 snails/kg, the price fluctuated from 70 - 80 thousand VND/kg. Currently, her family has multiplied snail seeds to both provide seeds for raising and sell to the market. Each year, she sells 2 batches of commercial snails with about 1 ton of snails and 2 batches of snail seeds, the price fluctuated from 300 - 400 thousand VND/kg, the average income was 70 million VND/year.

In recent years, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Slân, a member of the Khuoi Giao hamlet association, Co Ba commune, has changed their way of thinking, working methods and searching for suitable production directions. Ms. Slân said: In the past, I mainly did small-scale farming and livestock raising, with unstable income. To expand production, from the original 4 plots of land, my family rented 3 more plots to grow mulberry and raise silkworms. Currently, the average selling price is about 150 - 180 thousand VND/kg of cocoons, I earn 6 - 8 million VND from a batch of silkworms, the average annual income is from 100 - 150 million VND.

Promoting the potential and creativity of women in starting a business and developing the economy, the District Women's Union focuses on promoting propaganda and mobilizing members and women to compete in labor production and economic development. The Union at all levels has implemented many programs to help women escape multidimensional poverty with addresses and support women in economic development. In 2023, the Union at all levels organized 226 integrated propaganda sessions with 9,672 officials, members and women participating; members at all levels helped each other with 280 kg of corn and rice seeds; saved over 878.5 million VND at the branch with 85 members borrowing; contributed revolving capital of 65 million VND. From the beginning of 2024 to now, members at all levels have helped each other with 4,786 working days; provided 57 million VND in interest-free cash, and continued to mobilize members to save over 80 million VND at the branch.

The Women's Union at all levels has effectively maintained economic development models such as: pig farming, linking production - business - services of votive offerings, extracting star anise essential oil, growing mulberry and raising silkworms, linking star anise seedling cultivation... The District Women's Union selected 1 cooperative led by women to participate in the Women's Start-up Competition organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union; 3 members participated in a training course on skills to propose start-up ideas organized by the Provincial Women's Union. Continue to promote the implementation of Project 939 on "Supporting women to start a business" for the period 2017 - 2025, mobilizing and supporting members and women to develop their economy, build new rural areas, and sustainably reduce poverty.

To have capital for production development, the Credit Union at all levels with the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office helps the Association borrow capital for economic development. In the first quarter of 2024, 9 billion 650 million VND was disbursed to 154 borrowers, raising the total outstanding debt to more than 126.1 billion VND with 2,020 borrowers. The total outstanding debt at the District Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Branch is 6 billion 966 million VND for 165 borrowers.

Chairwoman of Bao Lac District Women's Union Noi Thi Hieu said: The Union continues to replicate models and good practices in economic development; promote and set examples of typical and advanced collectives and individuals in economic development on mass media, on the Association's Facebook and Zalo Fanpages, creating conditions for members and women to learn, thereby changing their thinking, helping women to be more proactive in developing their family economy. Encourage the Union at all levels to continue to promote the emulation movement in labor production, support women in economic development, contribute to effectively implementing the goal of poverty reduction, and ensure social security in the locality.
