African swine fever spreads in Nghe An, high risk of outbreak
According to the Agriculture and Environment newspaper, Nghe An province has experienced a number of dangerous livestock epidemics, the most worrying of which is the recent development of African swine fever .
According to statistics from Nghe An livestock industry, from the beginning of 2025 to now, the whole province has recorded 86 outbreaks of African swine fever with the number of pigs destroyed being 23,216, equivalent to 1,543,450 kg in weight.
It is worth mentioning that African swine fever has been on the rise in the past 3 months, with widespread outbreaks causing hardship for farmers, especially households. In May, the province destroyed 3,327 pigs, in June, nearly 10,000 pigs were destroyed, and from July 1 to July 15 alone, 7,912 more pigs were found.
According to the assessment of the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the outbreak of African swine fever is due to many causes. Regarding objective factors, it is seen that the form of household and small-scale livestock farming (accounting for about 65%), not ensuring biosafety, and epidemics are obstacles, especially when pathogens circulate in and out of the environment are very high, when favorable conditions are met, they will develop and spread quickly.
In addition, unfavorable weather and erratic rain and sunshine also contribute to reducing the resistance of livestock.
