Building civilized cities

Selected by the Women's Union of Dien Ban town to pilot the model of "Each branch has a vehicle to collect recycled waste", the women's unions of Vinh Dien ward, instead of collecting fixed waste at the cultural houses of the blocks, now go to each household to collect waste while promoting propaganda about waste classification at the source.

The mobile garbage collection vehicle is divided into 3 compartments to conveniently separate recyclable waste into 3 types: plastic bottles, cans, and scrap paper of all kinds. In addition, the vehicle has a small compartment to collect hazardous waste for easy classification and treatment.

The vehicle is also designed with a lid and lock so that after each collection, it will be placed permanently at the cultural house of each block, helping people to dispose of trash on days when there is no collection.

Ms. Do Thi Luan - President of the Women's Union of Vinh Dien Ward said that currently in the ward there are 6 mobile collection vehicles, 5 vehicles of the block branches and 1 vehicle of the Vinh Dien fair branch.

Every week, carts with the words "Collecting recyclable waste" are moved by women's union members along the streets and residential areas to collect household waste.

Garbage collection times are announced in advance to residents of residential areas via social networks such as Facebook, Zalo and loudspeakers. From there, residents will know the time and proactively gather garbage for women's association members to easily collect.

The mobile recycling waste collection model that the Women's Union of Vinh Dien Ward is applying has received positive responses and feedback from the people. As one of the active members participating in the model, Ms. Pham Duong Hong Van, in Block 5, said: "This is a very practical activity of the women of the ward. I feel very happy because I have contributed to building a green - clean - beautiful environment."

Small work, big meaning

The “results” after each recycling collection trip are gathered by women’s associations at the cultural houses of each block, then counted and sold directly to buyers. The proceeds from the sale will be used to raise funds to help those in particularly difficult circumstances in the ward.

Ms. Do Thi Luan said that after the propaganda and mobilization, people understood the meaning and enthusiastically supported this model. Many families even kept scrap waiting for the women to collect, at the same time encouraging the spirit of the women members. Thanks to that, in the last 10 collection trips, the model has raised nearly 5 million VND.

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Diep, in Block 3, Vinh Dien Ward, shared: “Although the work of the ward women is small, it is very useful for society, contributing to environmental protection and helping people in need. Therefore, I strongly support and encourage my relatives to join the ward Women's Union.”

The image of the blue cart with the words “Collecting recyclable waste”, along with the bright smiles on the faces of the women members as they move on the roads, has left a good impression on the people.

The model of “Each branch has a recycling collection vehicle” has contributed to raising awareness of protecting life and building urban beauty. From here, funds have also been raised to carry out the movement of mutual love and support to help people in difficult circumstances.
