Admission plan for grade 10 at ethnic boarding schools

The provincial Department of Education and Training has issued Instruction No. 648 on guiding the organization of enrollment in the first grades of junior high school and high school for the 2025-2026 school year in the province.

Accordingly, in the 2025-2026 school year, ethnic boarding schools in the province will enroll 21 classes with 735 students.

Specifically, the provincial Ethnic Minority High School enrolls 5 classes, 175 students (35 students per class); the secondary and high schools for ethnic minorities in 7 districts and Sa Pa town enroll 16 classes, 560 students (each school enrolls 2 classes, 70 students, 35 students per class).

In the 2025 - 2026 school year, Bat Xat District Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities will enroll 70 10th grade students.

The Provincial Ethnic Minority High School enrolls students from across the province.

District and town Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High Schools recruit students from their own localities; students from Lao Cai city, if qualified, can register for admission to Bao Thang District Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary and High School, with a maximum quota of 10 students.

Schools are actively preparing 9th grade students for admission to 10th grade schools in the area, including entrance exams to boarding schools.

The time for organizing the entrance exams for ethnic minority schools is the same as for non-specialized high schools, taking place from June 3 to 6. On June 3, procedures will be carried out at the exam site; on June 4 to 5, exams will be held for the subjects including Literature, Math, and Foreign Language. The time for the two subjects of Math and Literature is 120 minutes, the time for the Foreign Language subject is 60 minutes.

Students who fail to pass the entrance exam to the provincial Ethnic Minority High School can use their results to apply to other high schools in the enrollment area (including Ethnic Minority Boarding Schools in districts/towns); students who fail to pass the entrance exam to the Ethnic Minority Boarding Schools in districts/towns can use their results to apply to other high schools in the enrollment area like students taking the exam at the school.

Boarding schools with learning and living models will be the second home for students of all ethnic groups.

In addition to the entrance exam, district and provincial boarding schools also conduct direct admission, add priority points, and provide incentives for candidates according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training for each specific case, ensuring objectivity, transparency, and compliance with regulations.
