Podcasts and audiobooks - companions for book lovers

In the modern world, when time is one of the most precious assets, reading a book with hundreds of pages can easily discourage people. However, the habit of reading and learning has not been lost, but has only "transformed" to better suit the busy life. Podcasts and audiobooks have become reliable "companions" of souls who love books and knowledge but lack time.

Podcast channels are increasingly diverse in content and improving in quality.

A new way of reading

Tran Huynh Bao Tran (Ward 6, Tan An City, Long An Province) is currently a third-year student in Ho Chi Minh City. Tran is one of many young people who choose podcasts as an alternative learning tool. “Whenever I do housework, wash dishes or fold clothes, I often turn on podcasts to listen to content about healing, marketing   or self-development. I feel like my brain is still "working" while my hands are working" - Tran shared.

Sharing the same opinion with Tran, Huynh Ngoc Minh Thu (student of Tran Van Giau High School for the Gifted, Tan An City) said that Thu chose podcasts and audiobooks as her main channel for reading books. The combination of expressive voices and music of podcasts and audiobooks makes Thu feel attracted. In addition, cost is also an issue that Thu is concerned about.

“Because of limited budget, I hardly buy books. I can read paper books at the school library. Otherwise, I choose to listen to free audiobooks and podcasts. Currently, on the Internet, there are many channels that provide audiobooks, short stories, especially classic works completely free. Currently, I am listening to Vietnamese History by Tran Trong Kim” - Thu shared.

In today's society, podcasts are becoming increasingly popular, especially among young people because they are easy to access and can be listened to anytime, anywhere. This not only saves time but also helps listeners learn more knowledge, an option considered "optimal" for busy people. Ms. Tran Thi Cam Giang (Chau Thanh district) is an office worker with 2 young children.

Ms. Giang said that since having children, she has had almost no time to read a proper book. That is why she switched to listening to podcasts. “Podcasts and audiobooks are my "saviors". While cooking, cleaning the house or taking care of my children, I can both entertain myself and learn new knowledge. I often listen to channels about healing, turning inward to take care of myself. I see it as a way to balance my busy life,” Ms. Giang said.

Part of reading culture

With the advantages of not being limited by time and space, podcasts and audiobooks increase the ability to reach listeners, including the elderly and the visually impaired. In particular, the explosion of healing podcasts is a good choice to find a sense of peace, fall asleep easily, sleep more deeply and have better health. The gentle, deep voices, the honest stories, the knowledge conveyed in a close way, ... help listeners find comfort, empathy and soothe their emotions in the midst of a somewhat hurried and volatile life.

Listeners can easily find a variety of podcast and audiobook channels on platforms such as Fonos, Voiz FM, Spotify, Google Podcast, Apple Podcast, etc. From classic books, skill books to psychology, business, mental health, current events, interviews with inspirational figures, etc., all can be found in the form of podcasts with or without images.

While they can’t completely replace the traditional reading experience, podcasts and audiobooks are redefining what it means to “read” in the digital age. For many, listening to books has become a part of their daily routine, a passive yet effective and inspiring form of reading.

Regardless of the form, reading with the eyes or listening with the ears, accessing knowledge is still the core. Podcasts and audiobooks are gradually asserting their position in the learning and personal development journey of each person in today's society./.
