BHG - Quan Ba District has been synchronously implementing many solutions to eliminate bad customs and gradually form a civilized lifestyle.

Quan Ba is a locality with 19 ethnic groups living together, creating a rich and diverse cultural space. Besides the unique traditional values, many bad customs such as high dowry, prolonged funerals, early marriage, superstitious religious activities... still exist in community life, significantly affecting the process of socio-economic development and building a civilized lifestyle. In order to improve the quality of cultural life, Quan Ba district has implemented many synchronous solutions, associated with the implementation of Resolution No. 27-NQ/TU of the Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee dated May 1, 2022 on eliminating bad customs and building a civilized lifestyle in the period of 2022 - 2025, with a vision to 2030.

Since the beginning of the year, the district has organized 27 propaganda sessions with over 2,700 participants. The content is flexibly integrated into village meetings, party cell activities, cultural and artistic activities, mobile radio broadcasts and leaflets with QR codes. During the past term, the district has achieved many positive results in eliminating bad customs and building a civilized lifestyle. In the field of funerals, the district has 312/380 cases in the Mong community carrying out the burial of the deceased, reaching a rate of 82.1%. 13/14 large Mong clans in the area have officially added this regulation to the village covenant, contributing to gradually forming a new lifestyle in the community.

The district has provided funding from 1.2 to 1.5 million VND to 24 typical households to improve funerals. In addition, 107 funeral committees have been established and maintained in effective operation in villages and residential groups, helping people organize ceremonies in a civilized and economical manner, while still ensuring solemnity and preserving traditional identity. Not only funerals, but also complicated and ostentatious weddings have been adjusted. In addition, the district pays special attention to preserving traditional cultural values. Festivals such as Gau Tao, linen weaving, Binh An temple, Lang Dan temple... are held annually, associated with tourism promotion. The whole district currently has 1 semi-professional art troupe, 14 shock art troupes, 107 mass teams and 3 folk art troupes operating actively. The movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" has been promoted.

The change in awareness also spread to economic life. People proactively changed the structure of crops and livestock, boldly borrowed capital, applied technology to production, and built economic models suitable for the locality. In particular, young people became the pioneering force with more than 80 start-up models bringing stable income. Up to now, the poverty rate in the whole district has decreased to 37.3%, the average income reached 40 million VND/person/year. Mr. Thao Din Ngan, a prestigious person in Si Lo Phin village, Tung Vai commune, said: “In the past, people still had many bad customs that made life difficult. But since the commune officials came to propagate and mobilize, people have changed a lot. Weddings and funerals are now simple and economical. Life is better, everyone works hard and unites to help each other.”

Chairman of Quan Ba District People's Committee, Hang Duong Thanh affirmed: "Eliminating bad customs is an inevitable requirement in the development process, but it is also a long-term process, requiring perseverance and practical approaches. Quan Ba District has identified propaganda as the focus, focusing on mobilizing and raising awareness in conjunction with improving material and spiritual life and preserving traditional cultural values. At the same time, the district actively supports pioneering households in change, commends typical examples, and resolutely handles acts of taking advantage of beliefs to propagate superstition, contrary to policies and laws. The goal is to build a progressive, united community, preserve cultural identity, and develop harmoniously between tradition and modernity, towards the image of a livable, civilized, stable and sustainable Quan Ba".

Eliminating bad customs is not only a journey to change thinking and ways of doing things, but also a necessary step towards a brighter future for the community. With strong determination and consensus of the people, Quan Ba is writing a story of change where good values are preserved, backward things gradually fade away and life becomes more prosperous, civilized and modern.
