The Russian website Topwar reported that the entire central area of Chasiv Yar, known as the “lime kiln of the century,” is under the complete control of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF). If we add control over the northern, eastern, and part of the southern parts of the city, the total area of Chasiv Yar under RFAF control exceeds 90 percent.

The only part of the city that remains under the control of the Ukrainian army (AFU) is the southwest – at the junction with the village of Nikolaevka. The areas of Chasov Yar where the AFU is present to varying degrees are marked on the map:

After losing control of most of the city, the AFU also lost control of important, tactically valuable heights at Chasiv Yar; notably the ridge of heights running from the Severny sub-district to the city centre and further southeast.

The high points in Chasiv Yar give a significant advantage, not only within the city limits, but also over the surrounding areas. Currently, most of the multi-storey buildings in Chasov Yar are also under RFAF control.

The Russian channel WarGonzo reported that the RFAF has established a foothold in the village of Stupochki, located south of Chasov Yar. The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet provided any official information about the situation in the village, and information from other sources is also different.

Two Majors channel did not report on the fighting in this residential area, but confirmed that RFAF units were successfully advancing to the border between the city of Chasov Yar to the south and west of the Chasiv Yar refractory plant.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that RFAF units are effectively using Grad multiple launch rocket systems in this area of the front. Today, multiple launch rocket batteries of the 98th Airborne Division destroyed a large group of AFU infantry.

In fact, information about the battles in Stupochki was confirmed at the end of April. At that time, a number of Russian military channels reported that AFU units had been pushed back from the outskirts of this strategically important village, and that the Russian army was now strengthening its defenses in the village, preventing a counterattack by the Ukrainian army.
9.jpg
Previously, the village of Stupochki was an important battleground for the AFU to deploy artillery to bombard the Russian troops in the Chasiv Yar city area. The RFAF's capture of the village of Stupochki and important heights marked their preparation to overrun this important city, opening the RFAF's summer-autumn campaign 2025.

Located next to Chasiv Yar is the city of Konstantinovka, and RFAF attacks continued to advance on this city from several directions at once. After units of the RFAF Army Group Center captured Malinovka and expanded their control over the Pokrovsk-Konstantinovka road, the AFU's logistical capabilities in these connecting areas were significantly reduced.
11.jpg
Currently, the last major transport and logistics route for the AFU in Konstantinovka and Chasiv Yar is the H20 road, which runs from Druzhkovka and Kramatorsk. Looking at the map, the H20 road has been cut by fire, or is completely under Russian control (marked in red); sections of the road that are still under AFU control are marked in grey.

The Military Summary channel reported that by Saturday evening (May 17), Russian troops had entered the village of Staraya Nikolaevka, south of Konstantinovka. The Russian troops' control of the village of Staraya Nikolaevka left the Ukrainian troops in the large village of Zarya on the same front line trapped in a pincer operation.
13.jpg
Currently RFAF advances are hitting hard west of the village of Zarya; while Ukrainian troops in Konstantinovka are trying to stop the Russian advance south of the city, with the Staraya Nikolaevka – Gnatovka (Ignatovka) defense line, on both banks of the Kalinovka River.

Russian thrusts have overrun Romanovka, east of Zarya; the situation is developing in such a way that the Russians will soon be able to level the front with an attack along the Toretsk - Zorya - Malinivka line. The RFAF had taken control of Malinivka a few days earlier.

. RFAF assault units also consolidated their positions in the village of Novaya Poltavka, located southwest of Konstantinovka, on the left side of the T0514 axis, which they had just captured. In addition, Russian troops pushed Ukrainian troops out of a major stronghold north of Novoyelenivka, which they had just taken control of. (photo source Topwar, Rybar, Kyiv Post, Sputnik).
