Promoting Ao Dai culture must have true love and passion!

With the special performance of the "Heritage Ao Dai" collection at the Vietnam Women's Museum recently, when the wife of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Mrs. Ngo Thi Man, along with the wife of General Secretary andPresident of China Xi Jinping, Professor Peng Liyuan visited the Museum, director Quang Tu shared interesting things about promoting culture through Ao Dai.

The "Ao Dai Di Hanh" collection shows the beauty of the Vietnamese people and country with high-quality silk designed by designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam. The Ao Dai show is performed by beauty queens and runners-up of Sen Vang Company combined with traditional Vietnamese music performances. Director Quang Tu and director Do Bao Ngoc are in charge of the show's staging directors.

With the flow of history, Ao Dai is not only the traditional costume of the nation, Ao Dai is also a special image in cultural diplomacy , connecting Vietnam and the world.

Can you tell us about the difficulties and pressures when implementing a national-scale cultural program that you just carried out at the Vietnam Women's Museum?

- Director Quang Tu: The program goes beyond the scope of a normal art-fashion program, but this is a program to introduce and honor the beauty of Vietnamese culture. At the same time, it affirms the creativity and unique identity of the Vietnamese people before China. In particular, during the time of urgent content creation, ensuring the message of promoting Vietnamese Ao Dai culture is also a challenge that the team must complete.

From the perspective of a director of cultural diplomacy programs, what is the most important factor in the Ao Dai performance?

- That is "Vietnamese cultural identities and the beauty of Vietnamese people's appearance and soul" must be expressed delicately, attractively, impressively and seamlessly through each style, color and pattern on the Ao Dai costume combined with the model's emotional performance to the melody of the music.

What is special about the music performed this time?

- The music we use is a medley of two Vietnamese songs, "A Glimpse of Homeland" and "Drum Rice", and a Chinese song called "On the Field of Hope". We use the monochord, a traditional Vietnamese instrument with a smooth, clear tone to express the performance ideas according to the program's script.

The performance of the "Ao Dai Di Hanh" Collection was directed by Quang Tu and the young female director of the GenZ generation Do Bao Ngoc, who worked together well in staging.

. It is known that in this show you have a partner, young director Do Bao Ngoc, a member of the GenZ generation. When working with Bao Ngoc, what do you see as the strengths of this young director?

- Working with Gen Z is very interesting, I like their different creative ideas. With Do Bao Ngoc, she is enthusiastic, passionate, always challenging herself with high standards.

The Vietnamese Ao Dai is not simply a national costume but also contains a rich history, cultural traditions, aesthetic concepts, consciousness and national spirit of the Vietnamese people. The collection "Ao Dai Di Het" was designed by Designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam based on the idea of conveying the beauty of Vietnam's unique cultural, historical and natural heritages.

As a director who has been associated with many Ao Dai shows, what is your opinion on the designs of designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam over many years of work?

Designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam's Ao Dai designs not only have beautiful shapes, but when I had time to work with designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam, I realized that hidden deep within his unique Ao Dai designs is a special love for Vietnamese culture. Designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam always wishes to shine more of the quintessence of folklore through Ao Dai. Designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam has contributed to making Ao Dai not only a traditional costume, a typical cultural feature of Vietnamese people, but also reaching out, becoming an ambassador of Vietnamese culture.

. Did you have any difficulty in choosing models to perform at such a big event and what criteria did you use?

- For this program, we select talented, professional models along with some beauty queens and prestigious beauties of Sen Vang company. Therefore, the performance is performed in a standard and high quality manner.

It is known that you are a very principled director when working, so when working with young people, does this principle cause conflicts between you and your colleagues?

- We got along very quickly, and had similar ideas. Maybe because we have something in common creatively: We like the combination of tradition and modernity.
What are your plans for the end of 2023?

- I will complete two programs to welcome Christmas and Countdown 2024.
