In the new circular, the Ministry of Transport added many new regulations to enhance safety assurance. The regulations take effect from September 1.
The new regulations set out specific requirements for flight experience for air transport pilots.
Pilots who want to apply for an air transport pilot license must have at least 1,500 hours of flight experience on aircraft (Illustration photo).
Specifically, applicants for an air transport pilot license must have at least 1,500 hours of flight experience on aircraft.
Of which, a maximum of 100 hours of flight time must be spent in a flight simulator, of which a maximum of 25 hours must be spent in a flight procedures trainer or basic instrument flight trainer; a minimum of 500 hours as a supervised pilot-in-command.
In addition, 250 hours must be spent as pilot-in-command, or a minimum of 70 hours of flight time as pilot-in-command and the remaining required time as pilot-in-command under supervision;
The applicant must also have 200 hours of long-haul flight time, of which at least 100 hours must have been as pilot-in-command or pilot-in-command under supervision; and 75 hours of instrument flight time.
Also, 100 hours of night flying as commander or co-pilot.
For helicopters, the applicant must have a minimum of 1,000 hours of helicopter flight experience.
Specifically, there must be a maximum of 100 hours of flight time in a flight simulator, of which a maximum of 25 hours must be spent in a flight procedures trainer or basic instrument flight trainer; 250 hours as a pilot-in-command, or a minimum of 70 hours as a pilot-in-command and the remaining required time as a pilot-in-command under supervision.
The applicant must also have 200 hours of long-haul flight experience, including at least 100 hours as pilot-in-command or pilot-in-command under supervision; 30 hours of instrument flight experience; and 5 hours of night flight experience as pilot-in-command or co-pilot.
The new circular also sets out specific requirements for private pilots. To be granted a private pilot license (PPL), the applicant must have certain experience in the type of aircraft.
Accordingly, a minimum total flight time of 40 hours is required; a minimum of 10 hours of solo flight time under the supervision of a flight instructor; and a minimum of 5 hours of solo flight time - long-distance flight experience.
In addition, the PPL applicant must have at least five solo take-offs and landings to a complete stop (with each landing involving a circling flight) at an airport with an operating control tower, and long-distance solo flight experience (as defined by the regulations as a minimum of 270km or 150 miles) on a route conducted with two different landing points.
