DIEN BIEN PROVINCE PLANNING FOR THE PERIOD 2021-2030, VISION TO 2050

Dien Bien is a border province in the Northwest region of the country, with an area of 9,540 km2 and a population of more than 625,000 people in 2021. Dien Bien has a strategic position in terms of national security and defense, protecting national border sovereignty . As the only province with a border with Laos and China at landmark 0 and also the province with the longest border in the country, Dien Bien possesses special strengths in international trade. Accordingly, China is the main consumer market for seafood, vegetables; cashew nuts, coffee; rubber, wood products, etc.; Laos is the import market for fertilizers, petroleum, iron and steel, textiles, ceramics and agricultural products of Vietnam. On the other hand, Dien Bien also has a favorable access position to Vietnam's economic corridor, the Northern Trans-Asian route connecting the Northwest region of Vietnam with the Northern Laos - Southwest China - Northeast Myanmar region; and located on the economic corridor of 7 northern border provinces. These favorable conditions have created many opportunities for Dien Bien to develop border gate economy, expand international trade, develop foreign economic relations, tourism and international transport services. At the same time, with the spirit of solidarity and efforts to overcome challenges, Dien Bien has proactively proposed many suitable and flexible solutions to practical conditions, gradually developing the socio-economy.
