What is forklift inspection?
Forklift inspection is the process of checking, evaluating and certifying the safety, quality and performance of forklifts based on issued regulations.
The purpose of the inspection is to ensure that the forklift meets safety and technical standards and is capable of operating reliably in the working environment.

Forklift inspection regulations may vary by country and region. In Vietnam, forklift inspection is regulated as follows:
Types of forklifts that need inspection
According to Circular No. 54/2016/TT-BLDTBXH issued by the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs on December 28, 2016, regulations on safety inspection apply to all types of self-propelled industrial forklifts with a lifting capacity of 1,000 kg or more, including diesel forklifts, electric forklifts, standing or sitting forklifts and other types of forklifts.
How long does a forklift inspection take?
According to regulations, forklifts and manlifts must be inspected when:
- First time use, new from factory;
- During use:
+ For vehicles used for less than 10 years: inspection every 2 years;
+ For vehicles used for over 10 years: inspection once a year;
- At the request of competent authorities and using units;
- After the incident and repair;
- When exporting and importing.
Forklift inspection standards
Below are some of the issued forklift inspection standards:
- QCVN 25:2015/BLDTBXH: National technical regulation on labor safety for forklifts using engines, with a load capacity of 1000kg or more;
- QCVN 22:2010/BGTVT: National technical regulation on manufacturing and testing of dismantling equipment and vehicles;
- QCVN 13:2011/BGTVT: National technical regulation on technical safety quality and environmental protection for specialized motorbikes;
- QTKĐ: 17-2016/BLDTBXH: Technical safety inspection process for forklifts;
- TCVN 4244:2005: Lifting equipment - Design, manufacture and technical inspection;
- TCVN 4755:1989: Cranes, safety requirements for hydraulic systems;
- TCVN 5207:1990: Container lifting and crane machines - Safety requirements;
- TCVN 5179:1990: Lifting machines - Safety testing requirements for hydraulic equipment;
- TCVN 7772:2007: Motorcycles and mobile construction equipment.

Forklift inspection process
The inspection process for forklifts and people lifts must comply with the following steps:
Check forklift technical records
Conduct forklift technical file inspection including:
- Check factory records;
- Check operation, maintenance and repair records;
- Review previous forklift inspection records.
Forklift technical inspection
Testing steps:
- Consider labeling;
- Check the technical condition of the chassis, body, floor, counterweight, and cockpit;
- Check the technical condition of the working mechanism, including lifting frame, load-carrying mechanism, lifting chain...;
- Hydraulic system;
- Moving system: wheels, axles...;
- Technical assessment of safety systems (brakes, signal lights, horns, mirrors, etc.);
- Check for cracks in the lifting frame or load-carrying mechanism using ultrasound or magnetic powder.
Technical testing of forklifts under loaded or unloaded conditions
When the requirements in the above steps are met, the vehicle technical testing will be carried out.
- No-load test to check the operation of the systems: hydraulic, signal, brake and travel (including transmission system, oil pipeline, oil pump, etc.);
- Technical load test: Static load test at 125%SWL and dynamic load test at 110%SWL;
- Handbrake test: Test at 100% SML load on a road with a minimum slope of 20% for 1 minute.
Processing of inspection results and issuance of certificates
After completing the inspection process, the inspector will prepare a forklift safety inspection report according to regulations and affix a forklift inspection sticker if the requirements are met.
Forklift inspection costs
According to Circular 41/2016/TT-BLDTBXH, the minimum price for technical inspection services for labor safety of machinery, equipment, materials and substances with strict requirements on labor safety is as follows:
- Lifting capacity from 1 ton - 3 tons: 1,100,000 VND;
- Lifting capacity over 3 tons - 7.5 tons: 1,600,000 VND;
- Lifting capacity over 7.5 tons - 15 tons: 1,900,000 VND;
- Lifting capacity over 15 tons: 2,500,000 VND;
Self-propelled man lift (regardless of load capacity): 1,400,000 VND.
