While the North American Toyota Highlander enters 2026 largely unchanged – save for a steep price increase due to the removal of the base model – the story is completely different in China, where buyers are treated to a series of interior upgrades that offer a more modern technological experience and a distinctly more premium feel. Specifically, the 2026 Toyota Highlander in the Chinese market is assembled by the GAC Toyota joint venture, sold in parallel with a nearly identical model - Crown Kluger - from FAW Toyota.
From the outside, the new generation Toyota Highlander 2026 SUV retains the familiar design. However, the real changes are only revealed when stepping inside the cockpit. All versions now come with a large 15.6-inch infotainment screen, replacing the previous 10.25-inch and 12.3-inch options. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard, while a head-up display (HUD) remains optional. To put that in perspective, in the US market, only the Limited and Platinum versions have a 12.3-inch dual-screen cluster and a 10-inch color HUD. The remaining versions only use a 7-inch dashboard combined with an 8-inch central screen.
To make room for the larger screen, Toyota has redesigned the dashboard with slimmer air vents and completely removed physical buttons for the climate control system. There's also faster 50kW wireless charging, and new interior color options for the Nappa leather seats. The higher-end versions add a panoramic sunroof, heated power rear seats, and an 11-speaker JBL sound system. Customers can still choose between a 5- or 7-seat configuration. Under the hood, there are no surprises. The 2.0L turbocharged petrol version still has 244 hp (182 kW / 248 PS), combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD. Meanwhile, the 2.5L hybrid version has a total output of 243 hp (181 kW / 246 PS), with the option of front-wheel drive or E-Four AWD.
The upgraded Toyota Highlander has now started taking orders in China, with prices ranging from 249,800 to 325,800 yuan (about 916 - 1.19 billion VND). Meanwhile, the Highlander version in the US has a starting price of 45,270 USD and the highest is up to 54,675 USD (about 1.18 - 1.43 billion VND).
