Parking problems

Many stores reserve their own parking spaces and do not allow others to park in those spots.

Seeing her husband grumbling upon arriving home because a note had been stuck on his car, Ms. Phuong laughed and asked:

- It's probably just some kids playing around and sticking it on. Tell me the whole story, what happened?

- I went to photocopy some documents, and since there was no space in front of the shop, I parked further up. Thinking I'd get it done quickly, I parked between two houses that were closed. About 5 minutes later, when I came out, I received a sign that read, "You have money to buy a car but not enough manners," along with an annoyed look from the homeowner. I was very annoyed, but I still had to politely apologize to let it go.

- The car was parked right in front of the door, blocking the entrance, so people were annoyed and did that.

- He knew parking in front of the house would cause inconvenience, so he parked between the two houses. Besides, there's no "no parking" sign on that street. The traffic police didn't even give him a warning, so why is the homeowner so upset?

- Getting a sign stuck on your car is nothing compared to what happened to a colleague of mine; someone even scratched his car door with a sharp object, and it cost him a million dong to repaint it. Many houses that don't run businesses still put up "no parking" signs, while those that do sell things claim the space in front of their house as their own parking spot, not allowing anyone else to park there. It's their property, after all; they can do whatever they want with it.

- The house belongs to them, but the sidewalk and the road are public property. If we park where the authorities don't prohibit it, what right do they have to do that? Even if the parking is illegal, the penalty is the responsibility of the authorities, not the homeowner. In my colleague's case, if there is evidence, the homeowner could be charged with damaging someone else's property.

At this point, our neighbor Khang came over, overheard the conversation, and joined in the fun:

- But I have to admit, some drivers are really "lucky" when it comes to parking, you know. Like the other day, a strange car was parked right in front of my house, and there was no phone number on the car. I had to ask all over the street, even going into several houses in the alley to ask, but I still couldn't find out who it belonged to. There's only one entrance and exit to the house, and the car was blocking it completely, so my wife and I struggled for ages to get our motorbike inside. It turned out the owner had gone to a friend's house to eat and rest, so they parked there from morning until late at night before coming to get their car.

- Yes, I have to admit that many drivers park carelessly, which is why people are upset. But only those who own cars truly understand the hardship of finding a parking spot.

"I think that in the long run, not only the central inner-city wards but also other wards need to plan for paid parking areas or lots. This is the only way to meet the needs of the people, avoid turning sidewalks into private yards, and prevent the current situation of haphazard parking that blocks all walkways," Mr. Khang said.

"That would be fantastic," Tùng nodded.
