TPO - According to observations by Tien Phong reporters, along both sides of the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway, the section from Than Cuu Nghia commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province to An Thanh commune, Ben Luc district, Long An province, spanning approximately 30km, is littered with various types of waste such as plastic bottles, tissues, packaging, tires, and construction debris. This situation detracts from the aesthetics and even poses a safety hazard, as plastic bottles are blown onto the expressway lanes by the wind.
The images were taken in Nhi Thanh commune (Ben Luc district, Long An province). |
Despite the "no littering" signs, trash is still being thrown everywhere. |
According to Mr. Huynh Chi Dung (62 years old, Nhi Thanh commune, Thu Thua district), wastewater discharged through the sewer into the Bau Trang canal is pitch black with pollution. "Since the water became polluted, rice production has been significantly affected; the rice plants don't flower evenly, and yields have decreased by about 20% compared to before. We have repeatedly raised this issue with the local authorities, but we were told that the highway is managed by the ministry, so we have no choice," Mr. Dung said. |
At both ends of the road leading to the Chau Thanh rest stop at kilometer 27 in Nhi Thanh commune, Thu Thua district, Long An province, on the route from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta and vice versa, garbage is piled up, overflowing from the edge of the highway guardrail onto the local road. |
The images, taken at kilometer 26 near the Chau Thanh highway rest stop, show that the highway fence has been cut to create an access point, and the area is also littered with trash. |
Many people take advantage of these gaps to enter and retrieve goods or catch rides on the highway. |
People are burning their household waste right next to the guardrail on the highway. |
On February 26th, residents collected and burned waste along the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong expressway, specifically at kilometers 26 and 32, passing through Thu Thua district. The fire spread, and thick black smoke rose high into the air, posing a threat to traffic safety on the expressway. |
In some sections, people take advantage of the space under the highway overpasses to dump trash, store belongings, etc., creating a very unsightly scene. |
According to Highway Patrol Team No. 7 under Department 8 (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security ), most of the trash in the area outside the Chau Thanh gas station, the section leading to the highway, is illegally dumped by people at night, making it difficult for officers on duty on the highway to detect and handle.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Dinh Van Sau, Secretary of the Thu Thua District Party Committee, said that the garbage in the Chau Thanh gas station area is cleaned up daily by the unit and then transported to a centralized waste treatment facility in Thanh Hoa district, Long An province.
Outside the station area, the Thu Thua District Urban Works Company will organize waste collection and processing. However, littering still occurs, causing environmental pollution and upsetting many people.
