Range Rover Velar 2025 priced from 3.73 billion VND, first time with plug-in hybrid version

(Dan Tri) - With a refined design and a list of available equipment at a moderate level, the new Velar adds options for customers looking to buy a mid-size luxury crossover priced at 4-6 billion VND.

The Range Rover Velar facelift has recently been launched to domestic consumers. The product appears to fill the price gap between the Range Rover (VND 12.68-27.39 billion) - Range Rover Sport (VND 7.72-8.65 billion) and the small car Evoque (VND 3.05-3.79 billion).

The price of 3.729-5.689 billion VND puts the new Velar in the same segment as competitors such as Porsche Macan (3.350-5.340 billion VND) and Maserati Grecale (4.200-7.539 billion VND).

As the soft, minimalist exterior model in the current Range Rover product line, the Velar facelift is not much different from the car launched 7 years ago. The car will attract a certain group of female customers with its soft, curvaceous lines and gradually sloping roofline.

The grille graphics are similar to the flagship Range Rover models. The headlights are neater and more modern, with integrated daytime running lights and slim turn signals.

The highest-end version will use a Pixel LED headlight system with 67 LEDs on each side instead of the full-LED type like the remaining versions. This equipment stands out with the ability to cut off the lighting area on up to 4 separate objects - including traffic signs - to help prevent glare for oncoming vehicles while still ensuring the necessary brightness.

The "glance" function and light intensity adjustment according to steering angle are also exclusive features on Pixel LED.

The sides of the car are almost unchanged with the upper half painted black to create the characteristic floating hood effect, seamless "waist" line and hidden electric door handles. Rims are 19-22 inches in size depending on the version.

The full-LED taillights are treated more minimalistically with only a red 3D strip running from the outside to the large panel containing the brand name. The rear bumper is more seamless, covering the dual exhaust pipes at the back.

Also new are two color options: Varesine Metallic Blue and Premium Zadar Metallic Gray.

The car is 4,797mm long, 2,041mm wide, 1,683mm high and has a 2,874mm wheelbase. The air suspension (default on Dynamic HSE, optional on other models) can raise 30-46mm or lower 10-50mm in many situations, while also complementing the impressive 580mm wading ability for a mid-size high-chassis model.

The interior has been completely transformed even though it is just an upgrade, especially the central area when all the main functions of the car are concentrated on the 11.4-inch Pivi Pro screen like its "seniors", supporting wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connection.

The over-the-air (OTA) update system intervenes and modifies almost everything, not only the infotainment system, navigation maps but also the chassis and engine.

Except for the starting version with 8 standard speakers, the Velar facelift will be equipped with a 12-speaker Meridian system with a capacity of 400W. Car buyers can pay more to enjoy sound from a set of 17 Meridian 3D Surround 750W speakers or the most "luxurious" is the Meridian Signature 1,300W with 22 speakers, combined with active noise cancellation technology (ARNC) to reduce at least 4dB of noise from the car's chassis into the passenger compartment.

Cabin Plus air filtration system includes in-car CO2 concentration management, PM2.5 fine dust removal and nanoe X ion generation.

Some other high-end "options" inside the new Velar include: 20-way power front seats with 3-position memory, ventilation/heating system and massage function; 12.3-inch digital dashboard; heated power steering wheel; four-zone automatic air conditioning; wireless phone charger; glove compartment with integrated cooling function; panoramic sunroof; 30-color decorative lighting; 360-degree camera with 3D display; information display on the windshield.

The safety aspect of the Range Rover is slightly superior to other cars in the same class thanks to the ADAS feature set, typically including automatic emergency braking, Stop & Go adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist with lane centering, blind spot warning and lane change collision avoidance assist, rear cross traffic alert, driver inattention warning, etc.

The 2025 Velar marks the first time the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engine option of this car line is distributed in Vietnam. The P400e version with a 2.0L I4 gasoline engine and an electric motor produces a total capacity of 398 horsepower and 640Nm of torque, enough to pull the car weighing more than 2.2 tons to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds.

The 19.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack allows the car to travel purely electric for up to 64km. The manufacturer announced that the Velar P400e consumes just 1.6 liters / 100km of mixed road and emits 38g of CO2 per km according to the European WLTP cycle.

The difference between the Velar PHEV and many other plug-in hybrid cars is that users can use a 50kW DC charging station to shorten the charging time from 0-80% to 30 minutes, in addition to charging from 0-100% at home using a 7kW AC charger within 2.5 hours.

The remaining two powertrain configurations are the P250 with a 2.0L turbocharged I4 gasoline engine with a maximum capacity of 246 horsepower and a maximum torque of 365Nm. The P340 version with a 3.0 turbocharged I6 gasoline engine has corresponding parameters of 335 horsepower and 480Nm. All are combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Regardless of the version, the power from the engine is transmitted to the road surface through an intelligent all-wheel drive system that can put all the traction on either axle or balance it 50:50. The Terrain Response system offers four basic driving modes: Automatic, Eco, Comfort , Dynamic and three terrain mode combinations: Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Ruts, Sand.

If the Range Rover Velar is aimed at a fashionable and luxurious style, its two competitors, the Porsche Macan and Maserati Grecale, are more sporty for customers who love the feeling of driving. With a budget of 4-6 billion VND, Vietnamese customers have other options such as the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE or Lexus LX.
