Rangnick advises Nagelsmann to go to Tottenham

Former Man Utd coach Ralf Rangnick urged compatriot Julian Nagelsmann to accept an offer from Tottenham.

"Tottenham owns one of the most modern and beautiful stadiums in the world . They have one of the best training centers, and chairman Daniel Levy has been at the club for many years," Rangnick told Sky Sports when asked why he advised Nagelsmann to accept the London club.

Nagelsmann was Rangnick's partner at RB Leipzig. On March 23, the 35-year-old coach was unexpectedly fired by Bayern. But Nagelsmann immediately attracted the attention of a number of big clubs, including Tottenham - the team looking for a replacement for Antonio Conte.

According to German media, Nagelsmann wants to wait until the summer to decide on a new job. That could be the reason why Tottenham is hesitant to find a new manager. After parting ways with Conte, the North London club appointed Cristian Stellini as interim coach but fired him after just four games, when a 1-6 defeat to Newcastle was the last straw. Tottenham just drew 2-2 with Man Utd in their first match under another interim coach, Ryan Mason.

According to Rangnick, Nagelsmann will need the support of a sporting director if he is to do well at Tottenham. The position was left vacant after Fabio Paratici resigned due to a financial fraud scandal while working for Juventus.

"If Tottenham really want to appoint Nagelsmann, I think it's important that they appoint a sporting director to help him. That would be a prospect to look forward to. Tottenham have the potential to improve, a lot. But it's not a team that can be in the top two or top immediately," Rangnick said.

Rangick was Technical Director for some time at RB Leipzig, and was the one who brought Nagelsmann to be the head coach of the German club in the summer of 2019. Therefore, the latest statement raises doubts about Rangnick's candidacy for the position of Director of Football at Tottenham.

However, according to sources close to the 64-year-old coach, Rangnick is unlikely to leave his position as Austria's head coach before 2024 when the Euro takes place in Germany. If he qualifies for the tournament, the Austrian Football Federation may extend his contract until 2026.
