Technology innovation playground
The Vietnam Robocon Competition, organized by Vietnam Television, has long been one of the typical technology events for engineering students nationwide. Not only a place to demonstrate skills in designing, programming, and assembling robots, Robocon is also an arena for creative thinking, teamwork ability, and team spirit. This is a model of appliededucation , where theory and practice are vividly connected, promoting innovation in engineering training.
In that context, the Central College of Industry and Trade (MITC) has shown active participation, established the Robocon Club, and organized an annual school-level competition for training and competition.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Vien, one of the direct organizers and advisors for the annual MITC Robocon innovation competition, shared: “We want to build a community of technology-loving students, where everyone can learn from each other and develop together. Robocon is not just a competition, but also a journey to help students acquire technical thinking and teamwork skills. Through these activities, students are encouraged to present their ideas, access project management skills and connect with technology businesses.”
The fourth industrial revolution is profoundly changing the labor market, vocational education institutions like MITC play a key role in training a workforce with digital skills, quick adaptability and creative thinking. Technology playgrounds like Robocon are “practical laboratories” for students to practice knowledge and skills in a vivid and effective way.
With persistent efforts and a liberal education strategy - linking practice - developing creative capacity, MITC is making a strong mark not only in training but also in national intellectual playgrounds, notably the Vietnam Robocon creative competition.

High expectations
In 2024, the MITC Robocon team made a proud mark when it entered the 1/8 final round of the national Robocon. This achievement is not only a great step forward compared to the first years of participation but also a clear demonstration of the maturity of MITC students in the field of technology - engineering; at the same time, it reflects the effectiveness of the practical training model combined with the creative playground.
Sharing about this journey, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Vien said: “Each year, the school-level Robocon competition attracts about 25 teams, each team has an average of 10 members. Students only have about 3 months to develop ideas, design mechanics, program and test robots. The pressure is huge, but it is also an opportunity for them to practice their creativity, logical thinking and teamwork skills - essential skills for the future.”
The preliminary round of the Vietnam Robot Creation Contest - Robocon Vietnam 2025 will take place from June 4-6, at Ninh Binh Provincial Gymnasium. The final round of the contest will take place from June 8-13, in Ninh Binh province.
In the final round, the teams compete in the group stage, quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals to select the champion team of Robocon Vietnam 2025. The champion team will represent Vietnam to participate in ABU Robocon 2025, held in Mongolia with the main theme of basketball.
2025 marks the third consecutive year that the MITC Robocon team has participated in the national competition. As planned, the preliminary round will take place from June 4-6 and the national final round will take place from June 8-13 at the Ninh Binh Provincial Gymnasium. Notably, this year’s Vietnam Robocon will also feature the ABU Robocon international competition held in Mongolia, opening up opportunities for regional academic exchange and broadening students’ global vision.
The MITC Robocon team is rushing to complete the robot model, applying more advanced technologies in automatic control, sensors, and simulation programming. The school's teaching staff and board of directors are also actively supporting the necessary resources - from manufacturing space, equipment, finance to soft skills training sessions. At this year's national Robocon competition, MITC will send 3 teams to participate in the qualifying round.
Dr. Tran Kim Quyen, Principal of the school, said that the goal of coming to Robocon is not only to compete but also part of a long-term strategy: to turn MITC into a technical and technological vocational training center with the capacity to integrate internationally, training high-quality human resources to meet the requirements of digital transformation and technology 4.0.
“With the motto “Liberal education - Connecting to practice - Creative capacity”, MITC constantly invests in programs to develop creative capacity and innovation in vocational education. One of the highlights is the construction of the Sunshine International Education Development Center - a place where research activities, academic exchanges, international cooperation and application of advanced technology in teaching converge,” said Dr. Quyen.
Student Dao Van Hau, class D46A Industrial Electrical College, said: “Over the past few months, teachers and students have been brainstorming ideas, purchasing equipment and materials, and designing robots; sometimes working through the night but not feeling tired. This is an interesting playground, the whole team is trying their best and hopes to achieve the best results at the upcoming national Robocon playground.”
