MU could earn up to £20 million from the Alvaro Fernandez deal. |
Alvaro joined United from Real Madrid in 2020 but was not given the chance to make his first-team debut. After three consecutive seasons on loan, the Spanish defender was sold to Benfica last year for a fee of just £5 million.
Leaving quietly, Alvaro had an explosive 2024/25 season. He started 30 matches in the Portuguese National Championship, a total of 47 matches in all competitions, scoring 4 goals and assisting 3 times. Alvaro contributed greatly to helping Benfica win the National Cup and become runner-up in the National Championship.
That impressive form quickly caught the eye of Real Madrid, who are looking for a replacement to compete with Ferland Mendy on the left flank under new coach Xabi Alonso. According to British media, Real are prepared to spend £42 million to break Alvaro's contract.
When selling Alvaro to Benfica, MU included a clause that would allow them to receive 40-50% of the resale value. If the deal to Real is successful, the "Red Devils" could earn around 20 million pounds, a significant amount at a time when the team's budget is quite tight.
This is considered a valuable financial resource to help coach Ruben Amorim supplement his squad, especially in the context that the Red Devils have just experienced a disappointing season and failed to win a ticket to the Champions League.
