Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, with many rumors circulating that the tech company will release an iPhone 17 Air alongside the usual products, according to the tech news site Tom's Guide on August 3rd.
Leaked rumors from tech news site MajinBu reveal that the iPhone 17 Air's battery capacity will be around 2,900 mAh, slightly larger than initially expected, and encased in a steel shell.
Earlier rumors suggested that Apple's ultra-thin phone would have a 2,800 mAh battery. Although the difference is only 100 mAh, any additional capacity is beneficial for such a small battery. For comparison, the iPhone 16 uses a 3,561 mAh battery.
Despite its small size, information suggests it can still last a full day thanks to improvements in battery life technology and some performance adjustments in iOS 26.
The smaller battery also aligns with rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will be an ultra-thin phone, measuring only 5.5mm thick compared to the iPhone 16's 7.8mm.
If the iPhone 17 Air is truly only 5.5mm thick, this Apple phone will surpass the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which is 5.8mm thick.
Experts at Tom's Guide believe that Apple may not be the first company to launch a thin phone, but they are aiming for the thinnest phone ever.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to replace the iPhone 16 Plus in Apple's product line. This means that in its next product launch in September 2025, Apple will still have four devices: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to have a horizontal rear camera bar positioned in the center of the back instead of the traditional top-left corner, using only a single camera to ensure a slim profile, and this camera will be a 48MP wide-angle lens.
The iPhone 17 Air is also rumored to feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, an A19 chip, 12GB of RAM, and a lightweight, durable body made of aluminum and titanium alloy.
This is considered a major design change for Apple after many years, replacing the previous Plus line and expected to create a strong highlight for this year's smartphone lineup.
Current rumors suggest that Apple will hold its iPhone 17 launch event sometime between September 8th and 10th.
There is still no official information on the price of the iPhone 17 Air, but Apple may decide to keep the current price of $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus or raise it to $999 if the company decides to increase the price of the iPhone 16 Pro to $1,099.
