A new post on Weibo reveals that Apple is trying to apply two different camera technologies for the inner and outer screens of the foldable iPhone.

Specifically, on the outer screen, the device will use a punch-hole camera. According to 9to5Mac , this is not surprising because previous rumors have revealed that some iPhone models will use such a design. Both the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are reported to remove the Dynamic Island notch in favor of a smaller "hole" in the upper left corner.

This change is made possible by the Face ID sensors being moved below the display. 9to5Mac predicts that, based on the consistency of the product line, the iPhone's notch will likely also be in the upper left corner. This would make the iPhone 18 Air the only new model in the fall of 2026 that still retains the Dynamic Island notch.

Meanwhile, the large internal display of the foldable iPhone will use under-display camera technology. The decision to use this technology means that the device will have no visible gaps in the large panel.

However, integrating a hidden camera into the design is difficult because it requires working through a screen layer covering the lens.

Digital Chat Station also revealed that the foldable iPhone will use Touch ID for enhanced security, instead of Face ID. According to Apple Insider , this may stem from the space constraints of a foldable smartphone, while also helping to simplify the design for manufacturing purposes.
