McTominay had an excellent season in Serie A.

According to British media, McTominay is on the list of 30 players announced on August 7. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Chatelet Theater, Paris on September 22. Although Ousmane Dembele is the strongest candidate, McTominay's inclusion on the nomination list is a worthy reward for an explosive season.

If he wins, he will join a select group of British football legends who have won the award, including Stanley Matthews (1956), Bobby Charlton (1966), George Best (1968), Kevin Keegan (1979) and Michael Owen (2001). The 28-year-old midfielder is also aiming to make history by becoming only the second Scottish player to win the Ballon d'Or, after Manchester United legend Denis Law in 1964.

The 28-year-old left MU last summer, ending his long association with the "Red Devils" to start a new journey at Napoli. In his first season, McTominay quickly won the hearts of Campania fans with his explosive performances.

He scored 13 goals and had 6 assists in 39 matches, contributing greatly to Antonio Conte's team winning the Scudetto for the 4th time in history. Not only stopping at the collective title, McTominay was also honored as "Serie A Best Player 2024/25", a testament to his great influence at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

McTominay could not hide his emotions: "They are special. The love and support they give to the whole team, not just any individual, is what really touches me. The people here are passionate and motivate us in every match."
